  • A Million Kisses From Tonight

    A million sweet kisses from tonight,
    my love will be growing stronger.
    I can kiss you for hours with delight,
    and still want to embrace you longer.

    A million heart beats from tonight,
    I will still adore your touch intensely.
    My love will not skip a beat on any night,
    since I enjoy every moment so immensely.

    A million fond memories from tonight,
    I won’t be able to get you off my mind.
    I’ll cherish you from dawn until night,
    with thoughts so precious and kind.

    A million loving hugs from tonight,
    I’ll be more attracted to your appeal.
    I will always treasure that first night,
    when this was the way I started to feel.

    A million kept promises from tonight,
    my devotion to you will still be true.
    I vow that there will never be a night,
    when I am not faithfully loving you.

    A million more dates from tonight,
    I won’t be able to take my eyes off you.
    There will never be another sight,
    on earth that is more gorgeous to view.

    A million intimate talks from tonight,
    I’ll be paying attention with concern.
    I could listen to your voice all night,
    just whisper in my ear, for you I yearn.

    A million slow waltzes from tonight,
    I want to be dancing the floor away.
    I’ll be holding on your body so tight,
    and loving you more every single day.

    A million I love yous from tonight,
    I’ll be hopelessly in love with you.
    My passion will persist with delight,
    for the one I’m giving a million kisses to.

    To the one I gave my heart to,
    From the one who kisses on you.

  • A Sad Person’s Journey

    I met a sad person when I looked in the mirror today;
    I met a remorseful person who could not get away.

    I looked into the past through the sad person’s eyes;
    I looked to see the world as the sad person cries.

    I felt the heavy heart that comes with sorrow;
    I felt the life leave as if there was no tomorrow.

    I smelled the air that came from a distant past;
    I smelled an old scent that I hoped would not last.

    I heard a miserable weep that the sad person made;
    I heard them pray that the painful past would fade.

    I moved away but it did not get me anywhere;
    I moved again but the sad person was still there.

    I worried the sad person would take on the blame;
    I worried I’d always look in the mirror with shame.

    I told the sad person the past could not be amended;
    I told myself the future was the only path intended.

    I reminded the sad person the world is full of love;
    I reminded myself there’s a God who loves me above.

    I rejoice to know I get a new chance to improve each day;
    I rejoice to know I get courage and support along the way.

    I believe I can make this journey taking one step at a time;
    I believe happier days are ahead full of life and sunshine.

    I envision the sad person being full of peace and joy;
    I envision this journey being over with time to enjoy.

    I noticed the sad person had hope and faith as before;
    I noticed in the mirror a smile and passion once more.

    I know there’s a date when the sad person goes away;
    “I know this journey I’m on will free me on that day.”

  • Butterfly, Butterfly

    Butterfly, butterfly you are so sweet;
    fly over here and please don’t retreat.

    Butterfly, butterfly I think you are so neat;
    fly over here and land softly on your feet.

    Butterfly, butterfly I want you to greet;
    fly over here because you are such a treat.

    Butterfly, butterfly come take a seat;
    fly over here and get out of the heat.

    Butterfly, butterfly your beauty can’t be beat;
    fly over here and come join me while I eat.

    Butterfly, butterfly you made my day complete;
    thanks for flying over so we can finally meet.
  • Check Out My Ride

    I love taking off and traveling at my own pace
    With the cool wind blowing briskly in my face
    Long hair and bandana flying all over the place
    As I enjoy a brief escape from this crazy rat race…

    Check out my ride and catch me later for a chase;
    You might find out you really like leather and lace.

    I can ride a trike, or a custom bike, or a classic hog
    Just get me on some chrome to cruise out of this smog
    On weekends I go four wheeling into a swampy mud bog
    I never want to be one of those boring bumps on a log…

    Check out my ride and let’s go for a hot chili dog;
    A bad day biking is better than any good day’s jog.

    There’s no biker dress code to give you any flack
    Just pull on some boots and climb up on the back
    Better yet, get your own bike and join with the pack
    Buy a tricked out ride and then hit the road, Jack…

    Check out my ride and hang with girls dressed in black;
    Once you go biker babe they say you’ll never go back.

    The freedom of these wheels can take me anywhere
    I might go to a biker bar and have a cold one there
    Or ride through the country and breathe some fresh air
    Maybe join my best friends for a fun trip somewhere…

    Check out my ride and get some new threads to wear;
    buy a leather jacket with cool patches everywhere.

    While I’m out I might get inked with a fancy tattoo
    If I’m lucky I’ll meet a honey and fall in love so true
    Then we might step out and go dancing boot to shoe
    One thing is for certain, you never know what I’ll do…

    Check out my ride and let’s find a sunset to view;
    We can take the scenic route and stop for a chew.

    Upon my return I’ll be recharged and my spirit free
    I don’t want this feeling to end until I’m an old retiree;
    When it’s over take me on one last ride to the cemetery
    Give my bike to my best friend and pour a beer over me…

    Check out my ride and when you get to heaven let’s see
    who’s got the finer wheels in paradise, is it you or me?
    “The winner goes first down the bike trail of eternity.”

  • Christmas Tears

    Christmas comes but once a year,
    and with it comes a special tear.

    A tear for all the Christmases past,
    and memories that will always last.

    A tear for the loved ones now departed,
    and those families that never got started.

    A tear for those who never get a gift,
    and some spirits that won’t get a lift.

    A tear for the one I gave my heart to,
    and love we know will always be true.

    A tear for the children who get new toys,
    and big smiles on little girls and boys.

    A tear for parents who care for us, too,
    and the closeness Christmas can renew.

    A tear for relatives that missed this day,
    and hope next year are not so far away.

    A teardrop falls as Christmas Eve begins,
    and a sense of merriness we hope never ends.

    A last tear as Christmas Day is finally here,
    and with it, faith to know our Savior is near.

    With my love at Christmas and throughout
    the coming New Years,
    “God bless you and your family with many wonderful Christmas Tears.”

  • Class Reunion

    It’s been a long time since that memorable senior year
    when we finally got out and rejoiced with cheer and beer.

    Some of us hoped those school days would always last,
    while others couldn’t wait for finals to be in the past.

    Some of us moved far away and others stayed more near;
    either way it’s a good feeling to find our way back here.

    Some of us have passed on and we pray to see them in heaven;
    we’re sad about their loss and we miss them at this reunion.

    Some of us haven’t been back since we set out on our own;
    it’s amazing what has happened and how we have grown.

    Some of us found fortune and fame but most of us did not;
    what would we expect from such a wild and crazy lot?

    Some of us have none, some just one, a few—two or three;
    we’re talking about our marriages—not children, silly!

    Some of us look the same, others we don’t recognize at all;
    we remember each other before Mother Nature had a ball.

    Some of us were voted “most likely” but never really would;
    most of us got good jobs but don’t get paid what we should.

    Some of us went on to school and others went to work all day;
    it is interesting to discover what we are all doing today.

    Some of us found ourselves and others found some success;
    we’ve all been on a journey in search of love and happiness.

    Some of us have children that we love and care for dearly;
    we all have passions we love that fulfill our lives entirely.

    Some of us will revisit the places where we went long ago;
    others will look at pictures with friends we used to know.

    All of us will reminisce the homes and family from our past;
    we will come to the realization the present too won’t last.

    All of us have dealt with life’s events of goodness and despair,
    which accounts for all the wrinkles and the missing hair.

    All of us remember the young school days from our past;
    we now know what our parents meant by time goes by so fast.

    All of us here are happy and appreciate this reunion today,
    “There are too few chances in life to get together this way.”

  • Dedication to Reflections Poetry Book

    The Dedication
    For every poem, there was a reason,
    for every emotion, there was a season.

    For every poet, there was a mentor,
    for every line, there was an inventor.

    For every finish, there was a start,
    for every success, there was a heart.

    For every favor, there was a donor,
    for every kindness, there was an honor.

    For every love, there is a soul mate,
    for every soul, there is a god date.

    For every word, there is an editor,
    For every writer, there is a publisher.

    For every supporter, there is insight,
    for every contributor, there is delight.

    For every poem critic, there is a thank you,
    for every family fan, there is an I love you.

  • Don't Forget To Say I Love You

    We often take for granted we’ll see a friend once more;
    you never know if they are your last words out the door.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We stop short of opening our heart to a loved one so dear;
    be careful or you’ll miss the day they are no longer here.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We still are angry over something that happened so long ago;
    it’s way past time to let it go, so reach out and let them know.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We blow a kiss goodbye to our family as if we are bored;
    next time lovingly tell them how much they are adored.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We fondly remember teachers that taught us all we know;
    take some time to write a thank you note and tell them so.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We hurry past soldiers in the airport to get to our gate;
    be sure to salute their courage for protecting our fate.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We get our lives saved by brave public servants every day;
    be grateful for their loyal service and thank them today.
    Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.

    We never know when we awake if this day will be our last;
    seize the moment to appreciate others as life goes by fast.

    Make a promise to yourself and say a thankful prayer:
    “I won’t forget to say I love you, I won’t fail to show I care.”

  • Don’t Take Me Halfway To Heaven

    Do you believe in God? Yes, of course you do you say....
    But do you believe in God the Father all the way? What is that you say?
    Do you believe God created the world and life as they say...
    Do you believe God can hear you and heal you when you pray...
    Do you believe God will forgive you and see you in heaven some day…
    Do you believe the Holy Spirit is in you and part of your life today…

    Do you believe in the Bible? Yes, why do you ask you say…
    But do you believe in the Holy Bible all the way? What is all the way?
    Do you believe in each passage and the message that they say...
    Do you believe the Bible is God’s Word and it will guide you as you pray...
    Do you believe in the miracles the Bible says He performed each day…
    Do you believe the Commandments are the way to live your life today...

    Do you believe in Jesus Christ? Yes, I certainly do you say...
    But do you believe in the Lord Jesus all the way? What is your faith today?
    Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God and the Virgin Mary as they say…
    Do you believe Jesus loves you and will answer the prayers you pray...
    Do you believe He died for your sins and rose from the dead on Easter Day...
    Do you believe Jesus is your only way to eternal salvation today…

    Do you believe in Heaven? Yes, but hopefully not today you say...
    But do you believe in Heaven all the way? What is the other way?
    Do you believe there is a place prepared for you as they say…
    Do you believe God knows if you lived your life His way...
    Do you believe Angels will come and take you to heaven some day…
    Do you believe you would get there if the judgment were today...

    Maybe you believe in God but only half way...
    Then you must believe that half a blessing or half a life is okay…

    Maybe you believe in the Bible but only half way...
    Then you must believe that you know better than God what is okay...

    Maybe you believe in Jesus but only half way...
    Then you must believe that half an answered prayer or being half saved is okay...

    Maybe you believe in Heaven but only half way...
    Then you must believe that there is another way into heaven that is okay...

    If you choose to believe just half way… Who am I to say if this is the wrong way…
    Only God can say if that is not okay…As for me, I believe all the way, because…
    “I don’t want to go only half way to Heaven, some day.”
  • Enjoy This Blessed Day

    Have you ever had a really bad day and you felt so darn depressed?
    Did you ever think you were just unlucky or possibly not blessed?

    Have you ever felt that happiness and success were not meant for you?
    Did you ever want to change your place for another person’s view?

    Before you feel sorry for yourself, consider the plight of a few;
    who despite their many adversities some how made it through.

    Have you ever been to a ward of children with cancer every where?
    Did you wonder how they could laugh and play with out any hair?

    Have you ever seen a soldier with both legs missing under their gown?
    Did you wonder how they still love this country and never frown?

    Have you ever met a downs person and talked with them for a while?
    Did you wonder what makes them so happy and why they always smile?

    Have you ever sat beside a homeless man who smelled so awfully bad?
    Did you wonder how he got this way and what kept him from going mad?

    Have you ever seen children playing in a street of filth and grime?
    Did you wonder how they can enjoy their friends even without a dime?

    Have you ever seen the look in a mother’s eyes that had just lost a child?
    Did you wonder how they can possibly go on with life and not go wild?

    Have you ever said goodbye to a dear friend who only had days to live?
    Did you wonder how they kept up their spirits and still had advice to give?

    The next time you are miserable and feel there is no where left to turn;
    when life’s tragic events are crashing in on you and no one has concern.

    Take a lesson from those comrades who are much worse off than you;
    breath deep, find your courage, keep the faith and you will make it too.

    You are an incredible, beautiful and unique miracle of His creation;
    don’t waste your time and talent on life’s occasional frustration.

    Be grateful for life’s precious gifts and put a smile on your face;
    go forward spreading kindness, love, friendship, peace and grace.

    Take a look around you and marvel at every thing you hear and see;
    then say a prayer and thank God for the blessings bestowed on thee.

    Enjoy this blessed day, heaven sent by God especially for you and me.

  • Family Reunion

    It’s been such a long time I can’t remember the actual year,
    when we last got together and rejoiced with loving cheer.

    Some of us had moved far away and some stayed more near;
    either way it is a good feeling to find our way back here.

    Some of us have passed on and we pray to see them in heaven;
    we’re sad about their loss and we miss them at this reunion.

    Some of us haven’t been back since we took off out of town;
    it’s amazing what’s happened and how the family has grown.

    Some have money, some are poor, the family here cares not;
    what we care about is seeing you and catching up on a lot.

    Some found heaven on earth while others went thru hell;
    it matters not to anyone this day as we can’t really tell.

    Some of us have none, some just one, a few two or three;
    we’re talking about our children not marriages silly.

    Some of us look the same, others we don’t recognize at all,
    we remember each other before mother nature had a ball.

    Some had great ambitions that didn’t turn out like it could;
    most of us got good jobs but don’t get paid what we should.

    Some went to school, some to work, others had kids all day;
    it is interesting to discover what we are all doing today.

    Some of us found ourselves and others found some success;
    we’ve all been on a journey in search of love and happiness.

    Some of us have children that we love and care for dearly;
    we all have passions we love that fulfill our lives entirely.

    Some of us will revisit the homes where we lived long ago;
    others will look at pictures with family we used to know.

    All of us will reminisce the places and family from our past;
    we will come to the realization the present too won’t last.

    All of us have dealt with life’s tragic events and despair,
    which accounts for all the wrinkles and the missing hair.

    All of us remember the younger family fun from the past,
    we now know what our parents meant by time goes by fast.

    All of us here are happy and appreciate this reunion today;
    as there are too few chances in life to get together this way.
  • Gift With Purchase

    I’ll never forget the first time my mom introduced me…
    Who is this man, and why does he seem to know about me?

    Mom really likes him, but this is something new to me…
    Who is this man, and why does he always want to hug me?

    He treats my mom real nice and likes to have fun with me…
    Who is this man, and what do I call him so he knows it’s me?

    Tonight he came to dinner and Mom cooked for him and me…
    Who is this man, and why did he bring sweet treats for me?

    Afterwards we played and he read my favorite book to me…
    Who is this man, and why did he tuck me in and kiss me?

    There’s a movie I want to see and he said he would take me…
    Who is this man, and what is he doing next week with me?

    He took me to the mall and on his shoulders he carried me…
    Who is this man, and why does he care so much about me?

    We talk a lot when he’s here about school stuff and me…
    Who is this man, and what seems so special about him to me?

    He’s neat to have around, and he eats ice cream with me…
    Who is this man, and why does he always say he loves me?

    Mom said they’re getting serious and wants to talk to me…
    Who is this man, and what is this supposed to mean for me?

    I’m told he has a mom and dad and they want to meet me…
    Who is this man, and will they get more presents for me?

    We’re real close now and he goes everywhere with me…
    Who is this man, and when will Mom say he can keep me?

    He says that I’m the “Gift With Purchase” he got with Mommy…
    Who is this man, and why does he refer to his “GWP” as me?

    They talk of having a wedding and what to do with me…
    Who is this man, and is it true he’ll be a good dad for me?

    He said he doesn’t want Mom without his GWP, that’s me…
    Who is this man, and will he be moving in with Mom and me?

    Soon we took a trip and they said their “I do’s” in front of me…
    Who is this man, and does he promise to never leave me?

    He hugged me and said, “GWP, you are forever family to me…”
    Who is this man? and he said “Now you can call me Daddy.”
  • Gone But Not Forgotten

    A week ago they walked among us and breathed the earth’s cool air;
    they lived each day to the fullest and worked and played their share.

    They were just as full of life and laughter as they were of kindness;
    you never met a better person, so full of love and thoughtfulness.

    Anyone you asked would tell you they had the finest character trait;
    every friend and family member felt their personality was truly great.

    They had dreams and aspirations of a career with great success;
    all they wanted was a chance to achieve a life full of happiness.

    But yesterday that suddenly changed and came to a dreadful end;
    into their life came a cruel fate that no human alive could mend.

    It doesn’t really matter if this event was unwarranted or not right;
    we must accept death’s cold darkness, as we did life’s warm sunlight.

    Today we gather around to tearfully reminisce, mourn, and pray;
    a dear love that was one of our own has now lived their final day.

    The aching pain that comes with this reality is felt down deep inside;
    there are no comforting words or pretty flowers that help it to subside.

    The grieving ones left behind all wish they had more time afforded;
    but the way to heal a broken heart is to be grateful for the time rewarded.

    Tomorrow the hurt will start to fade away and gradually go by;
    but the fond memories of the one we loved will last and never die.

    They may be gone but not forgotten, as we reflect on this sad disaster;
    “Remembering a life that created a legacy, by the actions of its master.”
  • Happy Hour

    This week seemed extra long and rough on us all,
    now it’s time to kick back, relax and have a ball.

    You can catch the latest movie down at the mall,
    maybe hit the gym and then the pool or bingo hall.

    Instead you decide to a happy hour pub you’ll crawl,
    just find a seat at the bar or in a corner booth stall.

    Order a drink that is strong or a beer that is tall,
    meet up with some old friends who gave you a call.

    You can watch TV as your beloved teams play ball,
    win, lose or draw you cheer and hoot for them all.

    You jump up and down and get upset at each bad call,
    then head for the bath to pay rent down the hall.

    You can order some bar food if you have the gaul,
    maybe a dozen wings so hot they’ll make you bawl.

    Play a game of pool or watch people from big to small,
    be sure to get your order in for happy hour last call.

    The band tonight is good and she can sing like a doll,
    they light up the floor and you dance until you fall.

    Bring an old love or meet a honey who’s got it all,
    it doesn’t matter as long as you both have a ball.

    The bar servers have a drink and a joke to please all,
    get a smile and a wiggle from the waitress on call.

    Do you see those two fools arguing out by the wall,
    just stick around and there is certain to be a brawl.

    You had a drink with a friend and it is time to haul,
    so it’s out the front door that you stumble and fall.

    If you drank too much then a cab you should call,
    or you will end up dealing with a cop named Paul.

    The fun now comes to an end of another pub crawl,
    thank God for the blessing of a “Happy Hour” to all.

  • How I Wish I Knew

    We both hoped that someday a special person would arrive,
    someone with the magic to make our dreams come alive.

    We pass so many faces on this journey we go through,
    it’s hard to tell the one that is meant for only you.

    How I wish I knew if there is someone for me that’s true.

    When we first met each other on that full moon night,
    we wondered if we would ever share the morning light.

    We knew that getting involved could hurt us like before,
    but it’s a chance we’ll take for the one we’re looking for.

    How I wish I knew if this is the one to hold so true.

    As we talked long on the phone we both came to agree,
    let’s get to know each other and see if we are meant to be.

    So we spent some time together and soon we both knew,
    this could be the start of a wonderful life between us two.

    How I wish I knew if it’s possible that this is coming true.

    We learned things about each other that we really adore;
    as we grew passionate together our hearts wanted more.

    What happens to us next is the mystery that life is about;
    let’s keep up what we are doing and hope it all works out.

    “How I wish I knew if you could be my dream come true.”

  • I Am Somebody

    I bleed red blood the same as you.
    No matter what you look like,
    I look the same without eyes too.

    When I say, “I love you”, I mean
    with all sincerity, I really do love you.

    that is how I feel every day I wake up next to you.

    When I say, “thank God for you”, I mean
    I was blessed on this journey called life that led me to you.

    And "I Can Promise You This,"
    when I say, “forever” to you,
    I mean that for all eternity I could never stop loving you.

    To the one I make this promise to...
    I will always be the one in love with you!
  • I Don’t Like to Play House, Anymore

    I used to love to play house with my friends on the floor;
    these are reasons why I don’t like to play house as before.

    Mommy and Daddy don’t talk to each other anymore,
    now that he stormed out mad and broke the front door.
    Mommy and Daddy don’t eat out together like before,
    not since he hit her hard and she fell down on the floor.

    That’s why I don’t like to play house, anymore.

    Mommy and Daddy don’t watch TV with me anymore,
    now that I think he called her a no good rotten door.
    Mommy and Daddy don’t have fun with me like before,
    not since they don’t play games with me on the floor.

    More reasons why I don’t like to play house, anymore.

    Mommy and Daddy don’t take me to church anymore,
    now that they broke the darn cross off of the door.
    Mommy and Daddy don’t read me stories like before,
    not since they began passing out drunk on the floor.

    Two reasons why I don’t like to play house, anymore.

    Mommy and Daddy don’t take me to Grandma’s anymore,
    now that they told her to shut up her fat trap door.
    Mommy and Daddy don’t want a new baby like before,
    not since she said, “Touch me again, you’re on the floor.”

    Some reasons why I don’t like to play house, anymore.

    Mommy and Daddy don’t take me to the park anymore,
    now that when he gets here the police come to the door.
    Mommy and Daddy don’t tuck me in together like before,
    not since he beat her up and left her crying on the floor.

    Several reasons why I don’t like to play house, anymore.

    Mommy and Daddy won’t allow me play house anymore,
    now that my friends are too scared to come to the door.
    Mommy and Daddy just don’t seem to love me like before,
    not since they’re not able to get their lives “off the floor”.

    I wish they would grow up so we can have a house as before;
    “I hope they make up before we don’t have a house, anymore.”

  • I Just Want My Mommy

    For Future Use
  • I Miss You Mommy

    I wake up each morning to realize once more
    that you are not here and my heart hurts to the core.

    That’s when I start to reminisce and miss you, Mommy.

    I brush it off, but as I try to start about my day,
    I see a picture of us and the memories get in the way.

    That’s when I long for your hugs and kisses, Mommy.

    I get to a point in the day that I feel this familiar desire;
    it’s time to call Mom, but in heaven there are no phones to wire.

    That’s when I miss your voice and conversation, Mommy.

    As the day goes by and I need some friendly advice,
    I could always count on you and that was awfully nice.

    That’s when I miss your wisdom and encouragement, Mommy.

    I stay busy to keep my mind off grieving you
    until I’m asked how I am doing and if anything is new.

    That’s when I realize I’m not doing well at missing you, Mommy.

    By the end of the day I have exhausted my emotion;
    the good times, the friendship and loving devotion.

    That’s when I miss being a part of your day, Mommy.

    I’m comforted to know that we loved each other dearly,
    and that you are always as close as my next fond memory.

    But even though we have lots of great memories to adore,
    I’m saddened to tears because I know we won’t be making any more.

    “And that’s when I really miss you the most, Mommy.”

  • I Saw My Daddy

    Then he’d wrap me in a baby blanket and say, “I pray your soul to keep”.

    Then he playfully jumped on top of me and bumped the back of his head.

    Then he would sneak into my room, kiss me, and tuck me in so tight.

    Then he’d do homework at the table and teach me the golden rule.

    Then he stood back and said, “I think it’s your finest work of all”.

    Then he got me the cutest little puppy and I’ve never had so much fun.

    Then he’d sit in the stands and cheer when ever my name got a call.

    Then he tossed me the keys and said, “It’s your car now, drive carefully”.

    Then he said, “When you get home, please wake me up, even if it’s late”.

    Then he lectured me at dinner, on how my life was turning a new page;

    I saw my Daddy load up the truck and move all my things to school;
    Then he said, “I’m happy to do it”, and I thanked him for being so cool.

    Then he’d give me a big hug and say, “I missed you child, I’m glad you’re here”.

    I saw my Daddy dressed in a tux as we danced after I read a wedding vow;
    Then he said, “The honeymoon is on me”, and we both replied, “Holy cow”

    I saw my Daddy standing beside me when they brought each baby in;
    Then he said, “I’m proud to have you as a parent, to my grand children”.

    I saw my Daddy and I asked him, if he got to be a good Dad all on his own;
    Then he said, “I just re-taught the lessons that my father had shown”.

    I saw my Daddy on Father’s Day and I said, “Thanks for loving me so dear;
    I realize now every time I needed you, I Saw My Daddy was always there.”

    I’ll never forget what Daddy said next, “You are my prize possession here,
    your happiness defines my success”; then I Saw My Daddy wipe away a tear.

  • I Saw My Mommy

    I saw my mommy give my daddy a long kiss just after she gave me life;
    then Mom held me to her chest and told Dad, “I’m happy to be your wife”.

    then she’d kiss me on the cheek and say, “God bless you child, sleep tight”.

    I saw my Mommy lovingly take care of me, every time I was in bed ill;
    then she’d be so relieved when I could go outside to play king of the hill.

    I saw my Mommy shop for groceries and cook me such a healthy meal;
    then she’d serve up the most delicious food and say, “It wasn’t a big deal”.

    I saw my Mommy buckle me into a car seat and drop me off at pre-school;
    then she’d do flash cards at night and teach me to obey her every rule.

    then she admired it with awe and said, “I think you’ve got a magic touch”.

    then she said, “If it wasn’t for the guidance provided by him, I’d be lost”.

    then she bought me this Easter outfit and I never had such sharp attire.

    then she’d sit through my recitals and applaud, even when I fell apart.

    then she said, “It’s your life to live from now on, go for it courageously”.

    then she said, “You look so nice, have fun and don’t stay out too late”.

    throughout my life when I wanted you, I Saw My Mommy was always there”.

    I’ll always remember what Mom said next, “You are my greatest treasure,
    I prayed for this day as I gave you life”, then I Saw My Mommy cry with pleasure.

    I saw my Mommy help me every time I needed a little money or advice;
    then she’d always say, “I love you, call me any time, and don’t think twice”.

    I saw my Daddy when I returned home at Christmas time each year;
    then he’d give me a big hug and say, “I missed you child, I’m glad you’re here”.

    I saw my Mommy in a gorgeous dress, just before I said a wedding vow;
    then she said, “You make me proud to be a mom, just looking at you now”.

    I saw my Daddy dressed in a tux as we danced after reading a wedding vow;
    then he said, “The honeymoon is on me” and we both replied, “Holy cow”.

    I saw my Mommy hold hand so tightly as each grandchild was born;
    then she said, “I can’t wait to get them home, to be spoiled and adorn”.

    I saw my Daddy standing beside me when they brought each baby in;
    then he said, “I’m proud to have you as a parent, to my grand children”.

    I saw my Mommy and I asked her if she got to be a good mom all on her own;
    then she replied, “I learned it from the best mother that I have ever known”.

    I saw my Daddy and I asked him if he got to be a good dad all on his own;
    then he said, “I just re-taught the lessons, that my father had shown”.

    I saw my Mommy on Mother’s Day and I told her, “I’m your biggest fan, I swear,
    through out my life when I wanted you, “I Saw My Mommy” was always there”.

    I saw my Daddy on Father’s Day and I said, “Thanks for loving me so dear,
    I realize now every time I needed you, “I Saw My Daddy” was always there”’.

    I’ll always remember what Mom said next, “You are my greatest treasure,
    I prayed for this day as I gave you life”; then “I Saw My Mommy” cry with pleasure.

    I’ll never forget what Dad said next, “You are my prize possession here,
    your happiness defines my success”; then “I Saw My Daddy” wipe away a tear.
  • I Thought Wrong

    When my soul united yours to become your soul mate,
    I thought for the rest of my life you’d always be my date.

    When the center of my world went from me to you,
    I thought it created a bond forever between us two.

    When you told me that you loved me, more than all above,
    I thought it meant as long as you lived, so would your love.

    When you said you needed me to be your best friend first,
    I thought you planned to be there, for the better or the worst.

    When you whispered you wanted a family to always cherish,
    I thought you intended it to last, fighting for it not to perish.

    When you wanted my support, to back your dream careers,
    I thought that by doing so, you’d be grateful for all years.

    When our family members died, I stood close by your side;
    I thought you knew I’d be there, for any turbulent ride.

    When we took a pledge to be like buddy soldiers in the war,
    I thought you’d have my back, not desert me out the door.

    When you promised to be truthful, keeping no secret inside,
    I thought you could tell me anything, not make up lies or hide.

    When wedding bells rang, for close friends and family,
    I thought we set an example of what a marriage could be.

    When we vowed to hold each other, even sick we’d see it through,
    I thought you would care for me, just as I would do for you.

    When we married it was for love, regardless of rich or poor;
    I thought love would prevail, if it turned out less than more.

    When our vows were read, I clearly remember you said “I do”;
    I thought you would honor the promise to always be true.

    When I look back and review the pictures through the years,
    I thought they forecast memories of us as everlasting dears.

    When I reminisce about our life, so many things were right;
    I thought wrong about the ending, which I never saw in sight;
    I thought wrong about eternal love, it blew out like a light;
    I thought wrong about you too, I really never thought I might;
    “I Thought Wrong about the day I’d shed lonely tears at night.”
  • I Trust You My Heart

    I trust you my heart, to hold on to forever and a day;
    please promise me on your life not to let it get away.

    I trust you my heart, by doing so I bear my soul to you;
    please promise me no harm, as I am now defenseless too.

    I trust you my heart, so treat it with the fondest of care;
    please promise me that you desire to always be there.

    I trust you my heart, I need to know it’s firmly protected;
    please promise me you will not allow it to be neglected.

    I trust you my heart, I feel you embrace it as a treasure;
    please promise me to be kind and caress it with pleasure.

    I trust you my heart, since we are passionate together;
    please promise me this affection, forever to each other.

    I trust you my heart, your tender kiss I can tell is real;
    please promise me that this is how it will always feel.

    I trust you my heart, so tie it up to yours to become one;
    please promise me that you will never let them come undone.

    I trust you my heart, so do not deceive me or make me cry;
    please promise me your unwavering honesty until you die.

    I trust you my heart, so listen closely to what it has to say;
    please promise me not to ever turn an uncaring ear my way.

    I trust you my heart, so your devotion must be just to me;
    please promise me this is how your behavior will truly be.

    I trust you my heart, so this you absolutely cannot break;
    please promise me for life that you will never let it ache.

    I trust you my heart, since I am totally in love with you;
    please promise me in return a love unconditionally true.
    “I trust you my heart, so you can trust me with yours too.

  • I Wanted You to Know (no child version)

    I wanted you to know, you make my dreams come true;
    I’ll always cherish the day when I fell in love with you.

    I wanted you to know, from the moment I met you I was right,
    you were especially made for me on a heavenly night.

    I wanted you to know, you complete me in every way;
    I believe that you are my other half, forever and today.

    I wanted you to know, you have all the best traits that I desire;
    I respect the way you always give of yourself and never tire.

    I wanted you to know, I’m delighted we decided to tie the knot;
    I hope you are as happy as I am because that would mean a lot.

    I wanted you to know, love alone does not a marriage ensure;
    I’m grateful for the effort you put in for ours to endure.

    I wanted you to know, when times are tough between me and you,
    and life gets in the way of our love, I remain as faithful as you.

    I wanted you to know, I trusted your affection would never alter;
    I’m thrilled your passionate hugs and kisses have yet to falter.

    I wanted you to know, I enjoy your company on every single date,
    and I love dancing the nights away in the arms of a loving mate.

    I wanted you to know, that when ever my health needed extra care,
    I was comforted to know I could count on you to always be there.

    I wanted you to know, in those years when my career had its lows,
    I’m thankful you took it in stride, saying, “that’s the way it goes.”

    I wanted you to know, you are kind or strong to suit the need;
    the way you adjust to life’s events is impressive indeed.

    I wanted you to know, that when we get in the car for a ride,
    I could cruise the earth forever as long as you were by my side.

    I wanted you to know, I respect you as a person, friend and spouse;
    I’m proud of your career and I’ll be your biggest fan in the house.

    I wanted you to know, when I speak to God I thank him for you;
    if it wasn’t for my entire family, I don’t know what I would do.

    I wanted you to know, I enjoy your kisses when I go to bed to rest,
    and I absolutely positively think that you are the very best.

    I wanted you to know, I did a smart thing by taking your hand,
    exchanging our vows, and slipping on that eternal wedding band.

    There’s one more thing… I really wanted you to know,
    I’m still in love with you… even when it doesn’t show,
    “And I would do it all over again….if you would just say so.”

    Happy Anniversary to the one I trust my heart to
    from the one who is still in love with you!

  • If My Breasts Could Talk

    If my breasts could talk what do you think they’d say?
    They would surely thank me for caring for them each day.
    What should I do if one day they’re not as healthy as today?
    How do I ever tell one or both that they must be put away?

    If my breasts could walk for help where should they go?
    They would visit with their family doctor who will know.
    What should I do about this lump that my exam did show?
    How do I get rid of this mass before it starts to grow?

    If my breasts could hear that the cancer has spread.
    They would be awfully sad and probably turn red.
    What should I warn them about what may lie ahead?
    How do I tell them this might cause us both to be dead?

    If my breasts could ask a question all on their own,
    they would wonder if there’s a cure that is now known.
    What should I say about the mammogram that I was shown?
    How do drugs prevent it from getting out to the bone?

    If my breasts could heal then support they will need.
    They would want the treatment to promptly proceed.
    What should I pray to help the medicine to succeed?
    How do I tell them they are loved so kindly indeed?

    If my breasts could see all this extra tender care,
    they would know they must be special and so rare.
    What should I say about loosing all my pretty hair?
    How do I inform them they may be splitting as a pair?

    If my breasts could cry and be honest and forthright,
    they would share that they do not feel right tonight.
    What should I say to replace their fright with delight?
    How do I assure both that God will heal them this night?

    If my breasts could jump for joy they’d do so today.
    They would know the chemo shrunk the cancer away.
    What should we now do to celebrate this blessed day?
    How can I tell them that they are both here to stay?

    If my breasts could praise you all for the care so great,
    they would also thank God for the MDs who were first rate.
    What should I say except “I love you” to my supportive mate?
    How do I tell these girls why we are forever on a pink date?

  • If You Believe in Him

    When my Son was dying on a cross, I heard you kneel and pray;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter, His life ended on that day.
    There’s nothing that I ask, except take Him as your Savior today;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—He is the only way.

    When I needed help to do my work, you replied and did not hide;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter, sometimes you left my side.
    There’s nothing you could do, to set my appreciation aside;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—follow His guide.

    When I hear you preach the scriptures, I see you at your best;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter your faith, preach my guest.
    There’s nothing more I adore, so set an example for the nest;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—He will do the rest.

    When anyone was sick or dying, you nursed them back so well;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter if you question why some fell.
    There’s nothing so nice to see as your applying a curing spell;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—He can always tell.

    When I notice sacrifices you made, so others didn’t go without;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter, you protested for being out.
    There’s nothing I respect more, than an angel working about;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—this there is no doubt.

    When I consider the times I heard you pray for others at night;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter if the reply doesn’t seem right.
    There’s nothing I value more than the faith you hold so tight;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—pray to Him tonight.

    When I see your families, I get the proudest feeling I’ve had;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter if they sin or make me mad.
    There’s nothing you have ever done to make me feel so glad;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—you will not be sad.

    When I look at the world today, I see achievements by the ton;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter if you have problems left undone.
    There’s nothing the Bible and the Lord can’t do to heal someone;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—trust my Son, Amen.

    When I reflect upon the past, my message has spread so true;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter if we still have work to do.
    There’s nothing as important than to save a soul that’s new;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—as I believe in you.

    When I rejoice today the birth of baby Jesus, we all stand tall;
    I’ll never forget this—no matter that he was just born in a stall.
    His death in exchange for your sins is my greatest gift of all;
    you will be forgiven—if you believe in Him—respond to His call.

    “Have a very Merry Christmas, to one and to all!”
  • I’ll Always Remember That

    When I needed you the most, you were always by my side;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter how long the ride.
    There’s nothing you could do to possibly set that aside,
    so I will never blame you, if our lives should ever divide.

    When I came in late from work, you always had a meal at home;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if the cook goes on her own.
    There’s nothing I can return, for the nourishment I was shown,
    so I will never blame you, if I ever have to dine at night alone.

    When I saw you bear our children, you took them to your breast;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if one fell from the nest.
    There’s nothing I can say, except that as a mother, you’re the best,
    so I will never blame you, if our love should ever take a rest.

    When the kids became ill, you nursed them and went through hell;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if I rarely gave you a spell.
    There’s nothing you couldn’t do, but how you did it I can’t tell,
    so I will never blame you, if it ever causes us to say farewell.

    When I think of sacrifices you made, so others didn’t go without,
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if my gratitude you doubt.
    There’s nothing I respect more than that you never fussed about,
    so I will never blame you, if it’s ever my turn to be left out.

    When I think about the evenings you made love to me all night,
    I’ll always remember that, even if today it doesn’t feel right.
    There’s nothing to spoil the memory of when you held me tight,
    so I will never blame you if you have to tell me, “Not tonight.”

    When I look at our family, you made me proud to be a dad;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if they make me mad.
    There’s nothing you could do again to make a man so glad,
    so I will never blame you, if you ever cause me to be sad.

    When I reflect upon our lives, you made my dreams come true;
    I’ll always remember that, no matter if it ends with me blue.
    There’s nothing that could make me think indecently of you,
    so I will never blame you, “Since I can’t love you less than I do.”
  • I’m Glad You’re Here

    A grandchild knows you will have fun with them today
    they know you enjoy getting down on the floor to play
    they know you will cook their favorite meal buffet
    they know you like watching their TV shows all day.

    They know you are a vital part of their lives to stay.

    A grandchild will remember that day trip to the mall
    they remember you got them a birthday gift each fall
    they remember you chased them naked down the hall
    they remember you took them to the fair to win a ball.

    They remember the little things about you most of all.

    A grand child thinks you were born the age you are
    they think you are rich and always drove a fancy car
    they think you should reward them a chewy candy bar
    they think you will help them dress up like a rock star.

    They think you know everything both near and far.

    A grandchild can feel if your kiss is tender and dear
    they can feel if your heart is kind and truly sincere
    they can feel if your hugs are real when held so near
    they can feel if your home is welcome when they appear.

    They can feel if your love will last forever and a year.

    A grandchild can tell you the last time you were there
    they can tell when you went out with them everywhere
    they can tell when you safely watched them with care
    they can tell when you loved them and treated them fair.

    But most of all a grandchild can tell you in a special way:
    “I love you Grandma and Grandpa, and I’m Glad You’re Here.”

  • It Was Just One Leg

    Buddy joined the military to serve his country and defend free land;
    He went to camp—he assured his mom it was just one leg he planned.
    He was risking his life. Buddy always said “It was just a one leg stand.”

    Buddy made training with honors, the enemy he wanted to confront;
    He got on the plane, and they said it was just one leg to the front.
    He was anxious. Buddy always said “It was just a one leg target hunt.”

    Buddy heard gunfire and soldiers yell, so he went to join his men;
    He got shot on the way. It was just one leg, but he managed to save ten.
    He hurt bad. Buddy always said “It was just one leg. Thank God, Amen.”

    Buddy saw a soldier who had lost his leg when a mortar came calling;
    He got him to safety. Buddy told him it was just one leg that was missing.
    He cried. Buddy always said “It was just one leg, still got one kicking.”

    Buddy awoke from a daze to hear a medic chopper overhead flying;
    He saw many men severely wounded, much worse than he, and crying.
    He let them go. Buddy always said “It was just one leg, I wasn’t dying.”

    Buddy waited for the chopper to return, but he was captured first;
    He was put in a filthy cell with no medical care, not even a nurse.
    He got infected. Buddy always said “It was just one leg, it was cursed.”

    Buddy awoke from a daze for the second time since he’d been there;
    He had no leg pain any more, because it was just one leg that was spare.
    He was sad. Buddy always said, “It was just one leg, I’ll have no fear.”

    Buddy made it home. His mom cried as she saw his pant leg hanging;
    He said, “It’s all right…it was just one leg, won’t keep me from dancing.”
    He smiled. Buddy always said, “It was just one leg, I’ll be surviving.”

    Buddy soon met a sweet girl, who he loved with his heart so true;
    He got to his only knee and asked, “This one-legged vet wants to marry you.”
    She laughingly said yes because it was just one leg that she had too.

    They hopped down the aisle side by side, in an “it was just a one leg” wedding;
    Then came a baby that Buddy joked was from an “it was just a one leg” fling.
    He was a good dad, husband and friend too; just an all-American king;
    He was a proud vet. Buddy always said, “Life—it was just a one leg thing."
  • It Was You

    When I laughed so hard I could cry,
    it was you, who put that tear in my eye.

    When I loved so deep my heart was sore,
    it was you, who made this hurt I adore.

    When I listened to the whisper in my ear,
    it was you, who left it for only me to hear.

    When I felt your skin upon my hand,
    it was you, who beaconed it to land.

    When I skipped across the dance room floor,
    it was you, who I wanted to dance with one more.

    When I kissed your neck with a moist sliver,
    it was you, who caused my lips to gently quiver.

    When I looked into your soul at you,
    it was you, who was my heaven to view.

    When I smelled your breath upon my cheek,
    it was you, who made my knees feel weak.

    When I prayed to God for the miracle that is you,
    it was you, He sent as an answer to my lonely pew.

    When I wonder if a dream can come true,
    it was you, who brought it to life for me and you.

    When I reflect upon my response to each emotion,
    there is no doubt in my mind why,
    it was you, who I gave my loving devotion.

  • It’s Not the End of the Road

    You journeyed life’s highway and enjoyed the ride at every bend;
    You find yourself so far along you think you reached the end;
    It’s not the end of the road, you have plenty of miles to spend;
    There are sights to see, life to live, and road to ride, my friend.

    You fought wars against dictators, defeating them one and all;
    You find yourself eager but unable to answer a new battle call;
    It’s not the end of the road, your duty today is to remind us all;
    Brave soldiers defended our freedom until their lives did fall.

    You raised a loving family and watched them grow up over time;
    You find yourself out of touch today as you age past your prime;
    It’s not the end of the road, they need your hugs and family time;
    A grandchild was just born and will want on your lap to climb.

    You learned some hard lessons as you traveled this rough drive;
    You find yourself reminiscing how tough it was just to survive;
    It’s not the end of the road, please allow your legacy to thrive;
    By sharing your wisdom and experience until the angels arrive.

    You worked hard your whole life and earned an honest living;
    You find yourself retired from a career that was so giving;
    It’s not the end of the road, as your work here is just beginning;
    Pass down your knowledge to the next generation this evening.

    You bought a home, fixed it up, cleaned and painted every room;
    You find yourself in a smaller place, that at times feels of gloom;
    It’s not the end of the road, be proud to be part of the baby boom;
    That bedroom of yours is now your grandchildren’s playroom.

    You had many successes and a few failures you’d like to forget;
    You find yourself out of time for the goals that were never met;
    It’s not the end of the road, have peaceful dreams without regret;
    You can’t undo the past, so live for today, it hasn’t happened yet.

    You had loyal family and a loving spouse that predeceased you;
    You find yourself alone with the memory of when you were true;
    It’s not the end of the road, put on a smile and wipe away the blue;
    Have a good time creating new memories until you again are two.

    You were once strong as an ox and could work day and night;
    You find yourself on pills and prune juice, to keep up the fight;
    It’s not the end of the road, so put that idea far out of your sight;
    So long as you have strength to believe in God you’ll be all right.

    You know the day is coming when it is your turn to steer aside;
    You find yourself worried about getting off this long joy ride;
    It’s not the end of the road, because after your earth body has died;
    “God will greet your soul in heaven to travel forever by his side.”

  • Just For One Day

    It’s easy to take for granted all the freedoms that we’ve got;
    it’s hard to envision the rest of the world who don’t have a lot.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—giving it all up for naught.

    It’s easy for us to sleep without the worry of attack by night;
    it’s hard to go to bed for those who see an aggressor in sight.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—trading peace for fright.

    It’s easy to feed our families with a store full at every corner;
    it’s hard for many to avoid starvation with life on the border.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—no food kids can order.

    It’s easy to buy, tap, or swim in clean water to quench our thirst;
    it’s hard for others to even swallow, their throat about to burst.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—without a cold bottle first.

    It’s easy to get healing treatment with so many doctors in town;
    it’s hard for some to survive a day where medics can’t be found.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—no drugs or cures around.

    It’s easy to enjoy the many comforts that our luxury affords;
    it’s hard to picture the lives of those deprived of any rewards.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—being poor and backwards.

    It’s easy to become accustomed to necessities beyond belief;
    it’s hard for those without to comprehend a day without grief.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—if we traded in relief.

    It’s easy to celebrate, as we gather around friends and family;
    it’s hard for the less fortunate with no party to act merrily.

    It’s scary to imagine—just for one day—not giving back generously.

    “It’s scarier to imagine—just for one day—not thanking God graciously.”

  • Kiss On Every Night

    We got to know each other by chatting nightly on the phone;
    we were not always together but we truly never felt alone.

    We would kindly remind each other to please call tonight;
    we vowed to love and trust the other and “Kiss On Every Night”.

    We looked forward daily to knowing the night call was near;
    we would share the days events and find something to cheer.

    We explored the meaning of life and our beliefs so deep;
    we had no boundaries of discussion or secrets to keep.

    We knew we would be treated with respect and compassion;
    we learned the others interests and what gave them passion.

    We revealed our inner feelings and exposed our awkward past;
    we bonded from this knowledge and hoped that it would last.

    We merged our yearning souls until the two of us were one;
    we tied our loving hearts so they would never come undone.

    We endured the ups and downs as we journeyed life’s highway;
    we created cherished memories and never finished a day away.

    We enjoyed each other’s company and held hands on every date;
    we laughed and danced our nights in the arms of a loving mate.

    We kept our promise through the years of trusting devotion;
    we hoped our lives together would survive like an ocean.

    We went through life as a team, enjoying the ride at every bend;
    we knew however that any book has a final chapter at the end.

    We had both survived tragedies by staying true to the heart;
    we did not anticipate the day one would take our lives apart.

    We always knew someday one of us would go on alone in fright;
    I understand that day is here for my love to sail off like a kite.

    I know my soul mate has parted and life will never be all right;
    I agonize each time I realize they won’t be kissing me good night.

    I am forever grateful for them and for loving me at all cost;
    I know if we had never met that my life would have been lost.

    I will always have our memories and time can’t take that away;
    We can “Kiss Again On Every Night” once God calls me home to stay.

  • Living Legacy

    Many a man on a soul-searching night,
    has questioned his fate past the end of the light.
    While some disagree, there is reason to believe
    that there is life after this death that we grieve:

    The flame is out but his fire was passed along;
    the strength is gone but he willed us to be strong.

    The spirit is lifted but he is anchored deep in our heart;
    the knowledge is lost but he found time to make us smart.

    The vision is blinded but he still guides us through the years;
    the unconquerable has succumbed, but his courage lives in our tears.

    The laughter has subsided but his thought continues to bring a smile;
    the generosity has ended but his gift of giving is ours for a while.

    The mind has diminished but his memory is ours to keep alive;
    the body has perished but his heart is cherished by us who survive.

    The father has fallen but his lessons will raise generations of our young;
    the career has closed, but he opened doors for ours which have just begun.

    “The man is gone but he made us men to endeavor;
    the lover has died but his love is ours forever.”

  • Marriage Recipe

    As you both journeyed the sea of life
    you drifted and would often wonder,
    is there an ideal husband for each wife,
    who can grow together forever fonder?

    You searched long to try and find
    that one person you wanted to know,
    who could fill the heart and the mind
    with a love that would always glow.

    If this elusive hunt was easy prey
    and void of disappointment and pain,
    you would not appreciate this day
    as you kiss and celebrate your gain.

    By some deserving chance of fate
    you have come to love and care,
    and have found the perfect mate
    to begin a life that two can share.

    But you are only just beginning;
    soon you’ll discover in your heart
    that as difficult as love is in finding,
    keeping it alive is the harder part.

    There is not a marriage recipe indeed
    that can assure your mission of success,
    but there are key ingredients you need
    that will help keep you from distress.

    Start with understanding and trust,
    add the affection and love you’ve got;
    your devotion and honesty are a must,
    and communication you’ll need a lot.

    Throw in plenty of laughter and fun,
    don’t forget some dreams and passion;
    and thoughtfulness you’ll need a ton,
    then combine your souls and compassion.

    Liberally season in respect and tenderness,
    the right mixture you will need to refine;
    “Blend lovingly to create years of happiness,
    and a marriage that is gourmet and divine.”

  • My Best Friend, Sammie

    I’ve been bugging my parents for over a year—
    I want a cute little puppy, to cuddle so near.
    They have lots of reasons to say, “Not now dear,”
    but I’ll develop a plan to get a puppy, have no fear!

    I promise to love him or her, I really don’t care;
    I will feed and water them, and comb their hair.
    I’ll let them out, when they need to go out there;
    you won’t have to do anything at all, I swear.

    So I told them, “I know I can’t have a pup right now.
    When the time comes, I’ll need to pick one, but how?
    Can we just look today, so I can choose a bow wow?
    I understand there is no puppy you would allow.”

    To quiet me down, they finally gave in and agreed;
    they warned me first that there’s no puppy we need.
    So off to the puppy shelter I couldn't wait to proceed;
    my plan was working, and I prayed it would succeed.

    While Mom shopped, Dad and I went to explore.
    She said, “No puppy,” as she dropped us off at the door.
    We walked in to find a sale on puppies and more;
    I excitedly went to each cage, picking six I adore.

    There was this one sweet pup that was just too cute;
    I asked the clerk, “Can I play with the little brute?”
    The moment I held him, I was so in love I gave a hoot;
    We played slide, up and down my legs, just like a chute.

    He soon got tired and he crawled under my ear,
    then fell asleep, so close that his heart I could hear.
    As my dad looked upon us, I think he shed a tear.
    His big concern was how to get me out of there.

    About that time Mom drove up, and was anxious to go;
    Dad went out and said we have a problem though.
    She said, “We are not getting a puppy, I told you so.”
    “Just come in, see for yourself what I want to show.”

    Mom reluctantly agreed to park and come see,
    wondering what could the problem possibly be.
    She came over to view the pup sound asleep on me.
    Then she knew there was no way to get him free.

    To this day, I do not believe what next she said,
    “He’s got to be the cutest pup ever on your head.
    We have got to get him,” were the words she plead.
    My dad almost fainted before off to pay he fled.

    On the way home, all we talked about was a name;
    this was a major decision, but an idea finally came.
    I liked the name Sam, the pup was sweetie and tame;
    I merged the two of them, and so Sammie he became.

    We are now inseparable, we formed a special bond;
    he goes everywhere I go, and we've grown so fond.
    I love him as he loves me, he licks me to respond;
    “I want Sammie as my best friend, forever and beyond.”

  • My Friend Joey

    Not long ago Joey walked beside me and breathed the earth’s cool air;
    he lived each day to the fullest and worked and played his share.

    He was just as full of life and laughter as he was of kindness;
    you never met a better person, so full of love and thoughtfulness.

    Anyone you asked would tell you Joey had the finest character trait;
    every friend and family member felt his personality was truly great.

    He grew up smiling with a fondness for laughter and telling a joke,
    he loved to drive and could operate anything with a pull of the choke.

    He had dreams and aspirations of a long life filled with success;
    hunting and spending time with his family were Joey’s idea of happiness.

    Joey loved everyone and they loved him because he never met a stranger,
    he was the first to show up if I needed help or was ever in any danger.

    Unfortunately that suddenly changed and came to a dreadful end;
    into his life came a cruel fate that no human alive could mend.

    I got the chilling call that every friend dreads from the start;
    how do you respond when you get news that tears out your heart?

    There was nothing that anyone could have done to change his fate;
    all the love and care in the world could not put off that date.

    The aching pain that comes with this reality is felt down deep inside;
    there are no comforting words or flowers that help it to subside.

    The grieving family and I all wish we had more time afforded,
    but the way to heal is to be grateful for the friendship rewarded.

    Tomorrow the hurt will start to fade away and gradually go by,
    but the fond memory of a loyal friend will last and never die.

    I questioned God as to why and searched for answers without end;
    I decided to keep Joey’s legacy alive until the day we meet again.

    I have speculated as to what could or would or should have been;
    but since I can’t undo the past I cherish each day I spent with my friend.

    There are no words to describe his loss or explain why;
    “I still feel in my aching heart Joey wasn't supposed to die.”

  • My Hobby Is Missing You

    It seems as if everybody has a hobby today,
    a special thing to help them pass the time away.

    Some people collect old books or fix cars,
    while others love to gourmet cook or save jars.

    I have got a special hobby, too;
    my hobby is missing you.

    I’m real good at this hobby I’ve got;
    lately I’ve been practicing quite a lot.

    I can work at my hobby almost anywhere;
    most of it I do just sitting in this old chair.

    Finding time for my hobby is easy to do;
    since you’re gone there’s nothing to do but miss you.

    Some of my best work is done at night;
    I’m missing you long after I turn out the light.

    There is a strange thing about this hobby of mine;
    a hobby should be a fun way to pass the time.

    But my hobby is missing you and no matter what I do,
    it always makes me sad and awfully blue.

    I enjoy the memories of the good times we had,
    but they just make me miss you really bad.

    Your time was over, love, and you passed away;
    I know I will be joining you again someday.

    Until that day, when we are together as before,
    “I’ll be at my hobby, missing you, more and more.”

  • Oh Turkey Day

    Oh Turkey Day, oh Turkey Day,
    a day for the thanks we forget to say.

    Thanks for all the Turkey Days past,
    and the turkeys that gave us their last.

    Thanks for moms who work all day
    and nourish the family without pay.

    Thanks for dads who carve the bird,
    and watch football until mom’s absurd.

    Thanks for all the troops who defend us
    and provide the security for our happiness.

    Thanks for the love that’s everywhere,
    and the memories that are ours to share.

    Thanks for the health to enjoy this party
    and the delicious food that keeps us hearty.

    Thanks for allowing us to gather once more
    and enjoy these people we live our lives for.

    Thanks for the many things we have got
    and a Turkey Day to realize it’s quite a lot.

    With a special thanks today from me to you,
    this Turkey Day message and a love that’s true.
    “Happy Turkey Day!”

  • Once Upon a Family

    Once upon a family came an angel;
    her visit is a simple tale to tell:

    She lifted up those that were down,
    gave a listen when no one heard a sound.

    She assured those that were lost,
    gave of her time no matter the cost.

    She cared for those who could not,
    gave everything and asked for naught.

    She took your sorrow and made you smile,
    gave so you could enjoy life for a while.

    She treasured those that felt worthless,
    gave compassion and replaced your stress.

    She loved those who could not love back,
    gave hugs and kisses that were never in lack.

    She comforted those with a broken heart,
    gave unselfishly until her untimely depart.

    Once upon a time the angel had to leave;
    she left behind a family who now grieve.

    “Let us not mourn for a future that was lost,
    but cherish a loved one who gave at all cost.”

  • Reflections of a New Father

    It was not that long ago
    when to a wife I said “no.”
    It was only yesterday
    when to kids I said “no way.”

    A pregnant girl must be in trouble,
    for who would want their size to double?
    A crying baby was just a pain,
    a constant problem without gain.

    A family and I were a world apart,
    something I carefully tried not to start.
    My lifestyle and I were suited fine;
    for a wife and kids there was not time.

    Women were special, I enjoyed them a lot;
    variety I wanted and spicy it got.
    Each one had traits I loved and admired,
    but none had it all so with each I tired.

    This continued for many a year
    until I met your mother dear.
    She had everything that I needed
    and all the love I ever wanted.

    Within months she changed my way,
    and now I thought a wife okay.
    I got a good deal when I said “I do”
    that included your sister and dog, too.

    The mating instinct soon set in,
    and Mom announced “there’ll be more kin.”
    What I once thought of as a curse
    I now considered just the reverse.

    I watched your growth with wonder
    as you kicked your Mom like thunder.
    You wanted out but you weren’t done;
    your mother was not having fun.

    I cared for Mom and she for you;
    Dad couldn’t wait for one to be two.
    When the day came Dad was at work;
    Mom called and said, “Get home you jerk!”

    They put us up in the birthday suite
    waiting for Mom’s magical feat.
    Dad was ready with camera and candy,
    standing by to make himself handy.

    A few pushes later and you were here,
    all pink and cuddly from toe to ear.
    Mom was surprised but Dad was not;
    “It’s a girl!”—that’s what you’ve got.

    Friends came in and calls went out;
    Dad didn’t know whether to cry or shout.
    For what we had done I was truly proud;
    looking at you made us high as a cloud.
    I’ve never been so in love with your ma;
    as you took to her breast I was in awe.

    The doctor checked you out and you cried;
    he said you were healthy and we sighed.
    The weeks that followed were full of cheer;
    friends and family all gathered near.

    Small, soft and precious, so fragile too;
    Mom taught Dad what to do and not do.
    Each time I gazed into your eyes
    the miracle of birth gave me new highs.

    Your sister was helpful all the way through;
    not a complaint at the fuss over you.
    Your mother and I discussed at length
    how to raise you and give you strength.

    The world is changing every day,
    but the basic lessons do not sway.
    Your Mom learned from her parents and I from mine;
    if we follow their lead you’ll turn out just fine.

    We won’t be perfect but we’ll darn sure try;
    “We will be there to love you until the day that we die.”

  • Roses in Life

    If you choose the other to be the rose for you,
    and both of you are willing to be their sunshine too…

    If you can flourish on the light that your sunshine glows,
    and you are happy with the fragrance from each other’s rose…

    If you can laugh with each other when your days are bright,
    and shine for the other when their days are like night…

    If you can water your roses with a shower of unselfish loving,
    and not allow that shower to spill onto anyone undeserving…

    If you can give and take and share with one another,
    and not keep score but trust you’re fair with each other…

    If you can nourish your growth with the strength of understanding,
    and are careful never to neglect the cancers of withering…

    If you can care and protect each other through stormy weather,
    and secure the chemistry that first brought you both together…

    If you can communicate to the other what you feel and desire,
    and help each other achieve those goals and never tire…

    If you can love and be loved and remain lovingly enchanted,
    and respect each other and not take that love for granted…

    “Then together you will give yourselves life and unity;
    as your colors radiate, you will bloom for eternity.”

  • Someone Call My Daddy

    I crashed off the playground teeter-totter when I was barely four.
    As I laid there I cried, “Someone call my Daddy” to get me off the floor.

    Dad assured me, “it’s going to be alright” as he brushed off the jeans I tore.
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here” and he took me on his shoulders out the door.

    I was sent down to see the principal for bringing my pet snake to school.
    As I laid down I said, “Someone call my Daddy” and tell him I broke a rule.

    Dad came to the office and picked up me and Jack the snake at school.
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here” and we released Jack back into a water pool.

    I was riding my bike when a car pulled out and knocked me to the ground.
    As I laid there I cried, “Someone call my Daddy” to see if I’m safe and sound.

    On the way to the doctor he jokingly said, “Next time try going around.”
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here” and we went to get a puppy dog at the pound.

    I met a friend at a party who said, “I bet you can’t drink down a double.”
    As I laid in a police car I said, “Someone call my Daddy”, I think I’m in trouble.

    When dad got to the station he said, “your future is looking like rubble.”
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here”, he knew the cop who let me go with no trouble.

    I was playing for the championship in the final competition of the year.
    As I laid there injured I said, “Someone call my Daddy”, I really need him here.

    Dad gave me a big hug because he knew it meant an end to my sports career.
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here” and he took me to a bar for a consolation beer.

    I did odd jobs around the block and saved the money to buy my first car.
    As I laid under it I said, “Someone call my Daddy” because it’s not going far.

    He knew just what to do because when it comes to fixing things he’s a star.
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here”, he rubbed it in saying, “Hand me a wrecking bar.”

    I got into a bar fight, late one Friday night and broke my hand real good.
    As I laid on the car I said, “Someone call my Daddy” to get me off the hood.

    Dad said, “Here’s a little advice, next time bring a bat made of hard wood.”
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here”, he was young once and said that he understood.

    After some harsh words I broke up with my high school sweet heart.
    As I laid on the couch I said, “Someone call my Daddy” before I fall a part.

    Dad said, “She’s a good woman, so letting her go would not be very smart.”
    “I’m okay, my Daddy’s here”, he taught me how to ask her for a fresh start.

    In my life when ever I was down I said, “Someone call my Daddy” and he’d appear.
    Like a team of heaven’s saints who show up and help you out in life’s despair.

    I can not thank God enough for my Daddy and for always being there.
    I know if “Someone calls my Daddy” I’ll be okay because my daddy will be here.

  • Somewhere in the Middle

    There is your side of the story which is the true tale
    and then there is their side which is like a fairy tale.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is the actual reality.

    There is your recollection of what you said
    and there is a different meaning in their head.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is a little understanding.

    There is your good reason for something you did
    and there is their feeling of your acting like a kid.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is some kind forgiveness.

    There is your keen observation of the events to date
    and there is another story to which you can’t relate.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is an agreeable version.

    There is the insensitive way you were made to feel
    and there is no clue why the other thinks it is real.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is some tender compassion.

    There is your generous proposal that you planned
    and there is the other’s denial you don’t understand.

    “Somewhere in the middle” is an acceptable compromise.

    There is always a means to reach a fair resolution
    so try and find a common ground to avoid dissolution.

    because

    “Somewhere in the middle” there is a workable solution
    where you don’t win or loose but you find a final conclusion.

  • Soul Mates

    As I matured over time and eventually got wise,
    the lifestyle I had envisioned was cut down to size.

    The nights spent at the clubs began to grow long;
    fading was my dream of partying, wine, and song.

    A forever relationship was now much more appealing;
    a best friend and close lover could be a great feeling.

    There were former partners in my life who I had known,
    but none of them measured up so I remained on alone.

    From my experience I found out just what I adored;
    maybe more importantly I knew what I deplored.

    Patiently I waited for the right person to appear,
    a special companion to love unconditionally near.

    Then you entered my life and there was this spark;
    I felt you were the one who would enlighten the dark.

    You had the perfect combination to unlock my heart;
    I could feel you stealing it away right from the start.

    We spent some time together, and I knew I was right;
    you were especially made for me on a heavenly night.

    Our souls soon united to become each other’s soul mate;
    I knew for the rest of my life you’d always be my date.

    When the center of my world went from me to you,
    and we trusted our loving hearts to guide us through,
    “It created our relationship, divine and forever true.”
  • That Was God Just Now

    Have you ever asked yourself where is the proof that God really exists?
    Did it ever seem that no matter what they preach some doubt still persists?

    Have you ever asked if it was God who gave you a soul and what that consists?
    Did you ever want to see some evidence that He is the creator like they insist?

    Have you ever seen the sky full of snow flakes cascading gently down to the floor?
    Have you ever seen the air filled with maple leaves waltzing outside your door?
    Have you ever seen a meadow of rain drops glistening in the sunshine as they pour?
    Have you ever seen a horizon with double dancing rainbows in multi-colors galore?
    Have you ever seen the heavens wild with shooting stars and asked where they soar?
    Did you wonder who made a sky that could visualize all that and much more?

    Maybe, you saw God just now and observed what He created as you opened the door.
    Did you ever hear the distant roar of a vast ocean and it made you feel so small?

    Did you ever hear the peaceful song that was sung when water flowed over a fall?
    Did you ever hear a forest talking to you as you relaxed on a cliff edge that’s tall?
    Did you ever hear a bird sing and wondered if it was you it was trying to call?
    Did you ever hear a deep raging river and marveled at what started it all?
    Did you wonder who made the sounds and ask if they could be bought at the mall?

    Maybe, you heard God just now and the world He created like a giant music hall.
    Have you ever smelled the sweet breath of a playful licking puppy dog?

    Have you ever smelled flowering lilac trees in the air through a dense fog?
    Have you ever smelled the earth while kicking up dirt from a swampy mud bog?
    Have you ever smelled a Christmas pine tree being dragged in like a log?
    Have you ever smelled the grass after you fell down while playing leap frog?
    Did you wonder who made the fragrances that smell so superb to a hound dog?

    Maybe, you smelled God just now and the scents He left behind on His creation jog.
    Have you ever felt the incredible softness of a new baby’s skin in the bare?

    Have you ever felt frost bite on your cheeks as winter blew through your hair?
    Have you ever felt the texture of wet sand squishing in your toes everywhere?
    Have you ever felt the smooth skin protection around a fresh juicy pear?
    Have you ever felt the tough bark covering an oak tree growing tall in the air?
    Did you wonder who made things feel so marvelous from fairly rough to roughly fair?

    Maybe, you felt God just now as the universe He created touched you with tender care.
    Have you ever tasted the sweetness of cotton candy at a spring carnival?

    Have you ever tasted smoked barbecue at an all day summer festival?
    Have you ever tasted the lemonade at a kid’s stand to quench a thirsty call?
    Have you ever tasted a spiced apple pie made from scratch in the fall?
    Have you ever tasted hot chocolate by the fireside during a winter squall?
    Did you wonder who made them taste so delicious with a season to enjoy them all?

    Maybe, you tasted God just now who created their recipes for His creation ball.
    Have you ever dreamed of taking off and flying like an eagle through the air?

    Have you ever imagined saving the world of disease, hunger and despair?
    Have you ever had a superb idea that was really clever and very rare?
    Have you ever considered you could be the answer to someone else’s prayer?
    Have you ever recalled a memory and wondered how it was stored and where?
    Did you ask who invented a mind that can comprehend all this and think with care?

    Maybe, you met God just now who created thought so we could talk to Him up there.
    Do you need more proof that God must have created everything that is known?

    Just take a look in the mirror to see what he created in His image that is shown.

    Just listen closely to your voice and you can hear Him in each note and every tone.

    Just take a deep breath of life through your nose and smell His world on your own.

    Just feel your soft hair, your smooth skin, His warm heart and your funny bone.

    Just run your tongue across your lips and get a taste of His life’s sweetest cologne.

    Just think one thought and use your senses to discover you didn't get here alone.

    That Was God Just Now, overcoming any doubt you may have known.

  • That’s Not My Mate Upstairs

    Have you ever seen your mate and didn’t recognize them anymore?
    I looked for the person I married, but I don’t see my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever heard your mate speak and not believe your ears?
    I listened to the person I married, but I don’t hear my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever embraced your mate and got no affection back?
    I cherished the person I married, but I don’t hug my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever walked past your mate and gotten a nasty stare?
    I loved the person I married, but I don’t dance with my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever judged your mate, and they had changed from before?
    I prized the person I married, but I don’t know my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever laughed at your mate and found they lost their humor?
    I enjoyed the person I married, but I don’t joke with my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever sat your mate down and asked them what happened?
    I adored the person I married, but I don’t talk with my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever had dinner with your mate and left before dessert?
    I dated the person I married, but I don’t dine with my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever held your mate and wondered what they were thinking?
    I knew the person I married, but I don’t recognize my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever called your mate and wondered who else was there?
    I trusted the person I married, but I don’t believe my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever slept with your mate and knew it would be your last?
    I was crazy for the person I married, but I don’t sleep with my mate upstairs.

    Have you ever fantasized about your mate and they were absent?
    I desired the person I married, but I don’t dream about my mate upstairs.

    I went to bed with my mate last night and woke up with a stranger;
    I went to kiss my mate in the morning but saw my former life in danger.

    I need to talk to my mate about fixing us, before we get beyond repairs;
    I need the mate I married to kick out the stranger that moved in upstairs.

    I want my mate back so I never have to worry who that person is up there;
    I want them home so I can proudly say again,“That’s My Mate Upstairs.”

  • The Christening

    God wanted you to know I was sent from heaven as a special gift to you;
    He gave me an important message to deliver to all of you that is true.

    He wanted you to know, as you gather around today for my Christening,
    He will welcome me to the Lord and let me know if you are listening.

    He wanted you to know, I am just a newborn but He already gave me a soul;
    He expects you to treat me as His gift and assume a good parenting role.

    He wanted you to know, He is present every time new mothers conceive;
    He created the miracle of birth so that anyone who sees it will believe.

    He wanted you to know, He breathed life into me, so precious to us all;
    He wants you to care for me, as He does for you, until the angels call.

    He wanted you to know, He already has a special gift and purpose for me;
    He will tell me someday what that present is and He will let us all see.

    He wanted you to know, in case you ever doubted it, He is the Creator;
    He made the world that you live in and my life a few moments later.

    He wanted you to know, the man you call Jesus Christ surely is His Son;
    He was sent here to his mother Mary, as a Savior for me and everyone.

    He wanted you to know, when you look up and see the stars so bright,
    He made them so you would know what heaven looks like at night.

    He wanted you to know, when you smell a rose or see a rainbow so tall,
    or listen to a gentle waterfall or feel a snow flake from the sky fall,

    He made the world full of beauty and gave us senses to enjoy them all.
    He wanted you to know, how loyal and trusting He will always be;

    He turns the earth daily to make a new sunrise for all of us to see.
    He wanted you to know, He hears every prayer you ever thought or said;

    He will answer them all in time and listen someday when I pray in bed.
    He wanted you to know, His love is unconditional and will always be so;

    He wants to share His love with us and throughout the world we know.
    He wanted you to know, if you need an angel, He has them everywhere;

    He sends them to look over His people and comfort you in life's despair.
    He wanted you to know, if you believe in Him, then have fear no more;

    He took it away, gave you peace, eternal salvation and so much more.
    He wanted you to know, He is thankful for the faith you have in Him;

    He would do anything for you, if you would do just one thing for Him:
    Teach me to be a good Christian, believing Jesus died on a cross for my sin;
    “God raised Him from the dead on Easter Day so I could meet Him in heaven."
  • The Empty Nester’s House

    The children have all grown, gone to start lives of their own;
    they left behind an empty home where little ones used to roam.

    Up and down the hallways they ran, making too much noise;
    they left behind a quiet house—we now miss the playing toys.

    Hanging on the walls are school pictures from each class;
    they left behind a full wall, one from each grade they passed.

    On the table are pictures, taken in places we went years ago;
    they left behind fond memories and photos we proudly show.

    Next to them are pretty postcards where we spent our vacations;
    they left behind frantic trips to reunions and special occasions.

    Scrapbooks fill the closet, paper memories of family and friends;
    they left behind a catalog of fun we hope and pray never ends.

    Some were friends for only days, others blessed us for years;
    they left behind kind reminiscence—we think of them all as dears.

    Several of them left for adventure, but where, we never knew;
    they left behind an emptiness—we wonder what became of you.

    A few special ones sadly departed, gone to heaven in their prime;
    they left behind heavy hearts that will miss them for all time.

    In the hall hangs a photo of a family, standing beside an old car;
    they left behind a mystery, because no one knows who they are.

    In the drawer is a box of pictures, from our wedding long ago;
    they left behind confirmation that we once loved each other so.

    The bookcase is full of dusty trophies, won at events in the past;
    they left behind the winners, but memories of the glory will last.

    Upstairs is a cedar chest, full of old scarves and lacy dresses;
    they left behind their usefulness, as fashion style progresses.

    In the garage is a box of rusty tools a man once knew how to use;
    they left behind a bygone era, when their invention was news.

    Above the stove is a tin of recipes the cook once loved to make;
    they left behind an empty house where no one needs to bake.

    If you awake to find your life has changed, don’t be full of gloom;
    grandchildren will soon be born and they will fill up every room.

    Don’t be saddened to be an empty nester, don’t put on a frown;
    some folks like to think of it as God’s way of winding us down.

    Be thankful that you made it this far, to enjoy life’s final round;
    some day you’ll probably move into a rich southern playground.

    One day the kids will finally move back, to their old hometown,
    “As life starts over once more and the world keeps going ‘round.”

  • The Front Door

    It was raining the first time we saw the house and we dashed to the front door;
    as the door opened we stepped into a home we would love for years and adore.

    On closing day we got the keys and Dad carried Mom across the oak threshold;
    we could not of imagined then how the front door would witness our lives unfold.

    About a year later Mom was rushed out the door to deliver our first baby girl;
    we would return three times from the birthing room with little bundles of curl.

    When Dad got home the kids would always run and greet him at the front door;
    they would jump in his arms excitedly and then they’d tackle him onto the floor.

    The years went by so quickly and the kids went from shorty pants to big and tall;
    now, when hearing the door open they’d ask, “Dad, can you take us to the mall?”

    On the first day of school each year we would take their picture at the front door,
    they’d stand there in new clothes with a back pack full of school supplies galore.

    The door bell rang often as friends and family would all bless us with a stay;
    they’d walk in the door to have a fun chat and get a cold drink on a sunny day.

    Some came in the door and visited only briefly, while others remained for years;
    sadly, a few loved ones never returned and we remember them today with tears.

    On holidays we hung colorful door wreaths to welcome guests and their spouses;
    as special friends sent flowers and gifts, delivered to the front door of our houses.

    At Christmas we’d pick out a splendid tree and squeeze it through the front door;
    then we’d make hot chocolate and hang decorations from the tree top to the floor.

    From the first grade to a state college and from the first date to a senior prom;
    the front door would greet the occasion with pictures taken beside Dad and Mom.

    We were blessed with cherished pets that would wait at the front door to go out;
    they would welcome us all home so eagerly and bark when danger was about.

    Fun parties would fill our home with music, drinks and guests with fancy cars;
    arriving at the door for holidays and birthdays or to welcome graduation stars.

    Trip after trip, event after event, game after game, in the front door they came;
    it logged ten thousand memories with each passage through the door way frame.

    If the door could some how speak it would tell about those who came and went;
    the front door recorded the history of each opening and how our lives were spent.

    Eventually the house emptied out and we made plans to retire in warmer weather;
    we made our last trip out the front door and then we locked it behind us forever.

    We had faith in God and knew if one door closed that He would open one more;
    it’s not the same but we have a new door where we enjoy the sun and the shore.

    When it’s all over we’ll ride with angels to the paradise we always prayed for;
    at our final stop we look forward to meeting with God at “Heavens Front Door.”

  • The Passion Within

    A wise pastor came upon a quaint small town;
    he was looking for a place to put roots down.

    He noticed an emptiness in the air right away,
    like a heavy fog that lingers through the day.

    He asked around the town, but no one knew,
    what happened to make the small town so blue.

    One old timer said he remembered better times,
    when people had ambition and drank fine wines.

    He recalled the day the clouds took over the sky;
    the sun could not get through and said goodbye.

    People lost their way and had no real desire;
    they did only what they had to and easily tired.

    Gone was the enthusiasm to take a risk and set a goal;
    life was a struggle just to survive and took its toll.

    The years fed on each other and rigor set in;
    death of the small town was almost certain.

    But the pastor had faith and knew what was missing;
    he needed God’s help to set a new course for living.

    His vision would only work if they embraced His cure;
    people never like to change so the future was not sure.

    What was wrong with this town was it had lost its passion;
    it was on life support and needed guidance and compassion.

    He wondered where he could get a dose of passion;
    you can’t order it like when you want a new fashion.

    Then the pastor realized the passion was in them and alive;
    it had laid dormant and depressed and wanted out to thrive.

    All they needed to do was call upon God’s many resources;
    He would respond to their need with the passion on horses.

    God instilled in all of us the very passion that makes us human;
    it is up to each through our passionate deeds to succeed as men.

    So find a hobby, start a new task, save someone or even a town;
    kick a bad habit, discover your Savior and get off the ground.
    “Be passionate about life and you can solve any problem around.”

  • There’s a Fine Line

    Who are we to judge when we look a stranger in the face,
    how are we to know what events got them to this place?

    There is a fine line between life’s many situations;
    it’s easy to imagine having “less” without anticipation.

    There is a fine line between being the winner and winless;
    There is a fine line between making a score and scoreless;
    There is a fine line between having hope and hopeless;
    There is a fine line between going to a job and jobless;
    There is a fine line between owning a home and homeless;
    There is a fine line between having a love and loneliness;
    There is a fine line between net worth and worthless;
    There is a fine line between being helpful and helpless;
    There is a fine line between good taste and tasteless;
    There is a fine line between taking care and careless;
    There is a fine line between full of life and lifeless.

    What if you are the next to test that line with your sanity,
    and you wake up to find that “less” has caused your insanity?

    Be careful what you say and think about the stranger’s face;
    “You might be the next to cross that line and take their place.”

  • The Silly Way to a Girl’s Heart

    I know you are wondering how to merge our loving lives into one.
    You don’t need to duct tape our legs to keep me from making a run!
    I need to know you appreciate all the things I do from my heart.
    You don't need to buy me chocolates, but it’s a hell of a good start!
    I need to know that you are the one that is my forever soul mate.
    You don’t need a dozen roses, but it’ll help you reach home plate!
    I need to know that when you kiss me it is your love I feel.
    You don't need to hump me like a dog to show your love is real!
    I need to know that you believe I was especially made for you.
    You don't need a card to say, “Roses are red, I’ll be blue, until I do you!”
    I need to know your love is unconditional and will always be true.
    You don't need to change your will, but a large diamond would do!
    I need to know you will provide for me and be good in the father role.
    You don’t need to make a million, but just keep me off of a runway pole!
    I need to know you will respect me when I’m in a playful mood.
    You don’t need Dom P., but I need a few drinks to get me in the nude!
    I need to know you are honest and will always tell the truth.
    You don’t need to agree when I’m ugly, bloated or lost a tooth!
    I need to know you want to be faithfully devoted to me alone.
    You don't need to suggest I bring one of my girlfriends on home!
    I need to know you believe in the same good moral values as I do.
    You don't need to tell anyone what I shaved to get my new tattoo!
    I need to know you are listening when I argue with you at night.
    You don’t need to ask if I had a bad hair day, just agree I’m always right!
    I need to know you like singing to me like I’m your angel queen.
    You don’t need to inform me that you were having a wet dream!
    I need to know you love me when you are holding me so tight.
    You don’t need to loudly pass gas when the moment is just right!
    I need to know you will be supportive through life’s ups and downs.
    You don't need to hold up my saggy boobs and droopy bottom rounds!
    I need to know that you think I am just as desirable as our first night.
    You don’t need to advise me you require porno or pills in order to excite
    And please don’t say again, “It helps if you could turn off the light!”
    I need to know you will love me and would do anything for me.
    …..On second thought,
    “You don’t need to go any further, as I’ve seen all I need to see!”

  • They Said a Lot for Not

    They said they loved me, now they say they love me not;
    They said they cared for me, now they don’t care a lot.

    They said they were true, but clearly they were not;
    They said they were honest, but they surely lied a lot.

    They said they were my guardian, they protected me not;
    They said they were my family, they need to learn a lot.

    They said I was special, instead they treat me like I’m not;
    They said I was funny, instead they laugh at me a lot.

    They said I was attractive, but I just found out I’m not;
    They said I was fashionable, but I went out of style a lot.

    They said I was enchanting, now the magic spell is not;
    They said I was intelligent, now they taught me a lot.

    They said we had chemistry, now reaction there is not;
    They said we had it all, now we know, all is not a lot.

    They said we were a team, but just one player is not;
    They said we were best friends, but it must not mean a lot.

    They said our hearts were tied; it’s broken, so now they’re not;
    They said our souls were mated; it’s over, that says a lot.

    They said so many things, but the speeches were for not;
    They said they really meant it, but actions count for a lot.

    If you find that the words they said really matter not:
    “It’s time to find another, whose words will mean a lot.”

  • Things They Never Told Me

    They taught me a lot of stuff in school I’ve never used again;
    I wish they had told me some lessons I could use more often.

    They taught me how to play games that I’ve never played since then;
    I wish they had told me how to play the game of life I’m caught in.

    They taught me how to memorize dates, but I can’t remember one;
    I wish they had told me only a painful date can’t be forgotten.

    They taught me about world events that were meant to enlighten;
    I wish they had told me how to avoid historic mistakes that darken.

    They taught me how to study a book, line by line, for its meaning;
    I wish they had told me the lines in between make better reading.

    They taught me how to add numbers, and use the sum to reason;
    I wish they had told me if things don’t add up, look for treason.

    They taught me about the Ten Commandments, sent from heaven;
    I wish they had told me how to keep an angel from being stolen.

    They taught me about the importance of keeping your mind open;
    I wish they had told me how to shut out scenes I can only imagine.

    They taught me about the battlefields that we long ago fought in;
    I wish they had told me how to resolve conflict instead of fighting.

    They taught me how to blend things, and to observe them coinciding;
    I wish they had told me how hard it would be to watch us dividing.

    They taught me about the laws of science, that rule all creation;
    I wish they had told me the mess it creates in court litigation.

    They taught me how to keep in shape, and take care not to sicken;
    I wish they had told me how to jump start a heart that’s broken.

    They taught me how to fix stuff, so everything is worth repairing;
    I wish they had told me how to fix a marriage that’s not working.

    They taught me how to wish in a well for a loving man or wife;
    I wish they had told me if you are lucky and the wish comes true:
    “Then how do you ever stop loving the love of your life?”

  • Today I Cut My Fruit Tree Down

    I was blessed some years ago with the gift of a fruit tree;
    I was a novice to raising trees and was excited as could be.

    I would shower my fruit tree with attention at first;
    I would water it devotedly and prevent it from thirst.

    I anxiously waited for my new fruit tree to bloom;
    I imagined large fruit that one day I could consume.

    I covered my tree in bad weather to protect its branches;
    I wanted the best for my tree and took no chances.

    I worried about my tree and if it had enough sun;
    I fertilized it with love and compost by the ton.

    I could see my tree responding to the care it was getting;
    I was thrilled the day the new buds started flowering.

    I relished the moment when I saw infant fruits one morning;
    I envisioned them growing to be productive and adorning.

    I watched the buds develop into delicious specimens;
    I enjoyed the juicy fruit and shared them with friends.

    I admired my fruit tree’s growth for many years to come;
    I was never disappointed as it would loyally blossom.

    I began to take for granted that the fruit would not fail;
    I paid my tree less attention as my passion became stale.

    I forgot to fertilize and protect my tree from harm;
    I neglected signs of withering as if it had lost its charm.

    I was working in the yard one day when, to my surprise,
    I saw a dead limb in my fruit tree that was large in size.

    I was awakened by this revelation and knew of my neglect;
    I realized my tree was diseased from failure to protect.

    I developed a plan of action to undo the years of wrong;
    I started with the budless limbs and pruned it for so long.

    I trimmed my fruit tree until it I did not recognize;
    I knew the tree was dead but I hoped it would survive.

    I remember the day I knew my precious tree had died;
    I looked at what remained and remembered when it thrived.

    I am full of sorrow because “Today I Cut My Fruit Tree Down”;
    I blame myself for allowing disease to creep from the ground.

    I learned an important lesson as I reflect on where I’ve been;
    “I will never neglect another fruit tree if I get one again.”

  • Tomorrow God Made a Great Day

    Have you ever had a miserable and plain rotten day?
    Was it the kind where not a thing was going your way?
    Did you think about nothing but getting far away?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—you don’t want to miss it;
    it’s comforting to know He makes a fresh one every day.

    Have you spent your last dollar and have nothing to eat?
    Do you ache all over from stress and feel like you were beat?
    Did you think of every option, including your life so sweet?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—He’ll turn the Earth tonight
    so you can start a new life with a beautiful sunrise to meet.

    Have you lost a dear loved one and are now in disbelief?

    the sun will shine on your face, God’s comfort in relief.

    Is it the part of your life you know has gone way wrong?
    How about it, can you go without it, and still get along?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—take command of it;
    with God’s full support, He promises you will be strong.

    On your way home to tell them, did you feel like a dope?
    Did you wonder if you were now at the end of your rope?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—appreciate the sunrise,
    as it brings God’s blessing and guidance for you to cope.

    Have you had a bad fight with your significant other?
    Did you bolt out the door, cussing not to come back ever?
    Are you sorry for what you said, but can’t speak to one another?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—have faith in His ability;
    He’ll send the forgiving words to heal your hearts forever.

    Have you battled sickness and disease in a fight for your life?
    Does the pain get to you and feel like a twisting knife?
    Did you question God, what did you do to deserve this strife?

    Tomorrow God made a great day—He will heal you tonight;
    so that you can enjoy another wonderful day of life.

    If you disagree with Him, you can “try just missing one.”

  • Untold Story

    A life that started so very long ago,
    we sat around today and watched it go.

    It’s a story that begins with just a cry,
    and ends years later with a final sigh.

    When she came into the world the papers said “hi”;
    now that she’s gone, they wish her “goodbye.”

    In between this she lived, but they never knew
    the people she touched and what she’d been through.

    No books or stories will anyone be writing
    that will tell of this woman and why we are crying.

    We were blessed by the gift of her presence each day,
    we will forever miss her kind heart and gentle way.

    She was a woman and a wife, a mother and a friend, too;
    we shared her love—we are the fortunate few.

    There is no replacing this heavenly spirit we’ve known,
    we can only hope to inherit the character she had shown.

    Each of us knows the part in her life we lived,
    “the Untold Story we remember of one we loved.”

  • We Had a Child

    They came into this life riding on a radiant cloud of hope,
    that they could change the world by lending a hand to cope.

    They grew into a beautiful child, a joyful soul to be around daily,
    with a devoted family that loved and cared for them dearly.

    They had energy, wit, and smarts and were full of charm;
    their future was planned to do good deeds without harm.

    They grew up pretty and sweet with a fondness for laughter,
    with attributes for success in any career they went after.

    They loved to help people in need and never met a stranger,
    even when they couldn’t help themselves, to them there was no danger.

    They learned at a young age that their promising bud was ill;
    a diagnosis that would forever alter their life and will.

    They fought so courageously, with pain no child should know;
    if you met them for the first time, they would never let it show.

    Life becomes troubling when you are young and get lost;
    you look for solutions where there are none at any cost.

    It seemed like nothing we attempted could change their fate;
    all the loving care in the world could not put off that date.

    The morning finally came that we had dreaded from the start;
    how do you respond when something tears out your heart?

    We can question why and search for answers without end;
    we have their memory to keep and hope one day to meet again.

    The grieving loved ones wish they had more time afforded,
    but the way to heal is to be grateful for the time rewarded.

    We can speculate what could or would or should have been;
    we can’t undo the past so we live for today to cherish them within.

    There are no words to describe our journey or explain why;
    “We still feel in our aching hearts they weren’t supposed to die.”

    Tomorrow the hurt will start to fade and gradually go by,
    but the fond memories of the one we loved will last and never die.
  • You Can Trust Me Your Heart

    You can trust me your heart, to hold to tighter every day;
    I promise you on my life, I won’t allow it to get far away.

    You can trust me your heart, as I now reveal my soul to you;
    I promise to be your soul mate and surrender my defenses too.

    You can trust me your heart, I’ll treat it with exceptional care;
    I promise you that it’s my deepest desire not to go anywhere.

    You can trust me your heart, confident it’s well-protected;
    I promise you at any cost to defend it from being neglected.

    You can trust me your heart, I will not abuse this treasure;
    I promise to treat it kindly and caress it with gentle pleasure.

    You can trust me your heart, I respect our passion together;
    I promise to keep this feel of affection alive for one another.

    You can trust me your heart, each tender kiss of mine is real;
    I promise you for certain, this is the way it was meant to feel.

    You can trust me your heart, I accept your offer to merge as one;
    I promise you there’s no force that can make them come undone.

    I promise you my honesty will be infallible until the day I die.

    You can trust me your heart, I’ll listen intently to what you say.
    I promise you that I will never turn a thoughtless ear your way.

    You can trust me your heart, our devotion defines you and me;
    I promise you this is the way my faithfulness will always be.

    You can trust me your heart, this I positively will not break;
    I promise you on my life, I will do nothing to allow it to ache.

    You can trust me your heart, as I am hopelessly in love with you;
    I promise you an endless supply of the world’s finest love so true.

    “You can trust me your heart, now I can trust mine to you too.”
  • You Still Got a Pin To Go

    You trained for this event and wrestled all night and day,
    you are not leaving the mat until, “champ”, you hear them say.

    You’ll tear the opponent apart and make them suffer in defeat,
    they will surely wish they had never run into you at this meet.

    The match has begun and they are tougher than they look,
    you landed a take down but they escaped and got off your hook.

    You battle each period courageously, right to the very end,
    you won’t be pleased until in victory, your arms do ascend.

    One good move is all you need, to get you back into the lead,
    you still have got your best moves left, in order to succeed.

    Your coach advises you a strategy, to get back the upper hand,
    when they go right, you reach in and on the mat they’ll land.

    Look out, that arm drag missed, now you’ll have to try again,
    next time you need to do better if you want the title to win.

    You made a few good moves and came close to a near fall score,
    you get pumped for the last round and are ready to go one more.

    You are tired and out of breath as you fight off each throw,
    you get behind but you’re not out, so it’s time to start the show.

    No one takes you down and you’ll win this one like before,
    you dig deep and suck it up as your foe lies back to the floor.

    Life is like a wrestling match, you think you’ll never be beat,
    as the time clock runs out it is harder to keep from defeat.

    Call it guts or desire, the thrill of victory is sweet indeed,
    thank god for the gifts he endowed you, in order to succeed.

    You left nothing on the mat as you trained for this and won,
    you proudly held one finger high and said you’re number one.

    As the meet closes out you look at the trophy that you got,
    the crowd roared for their champ who kicked butt a lot.

    So warn every wrestler in the arena and let them all know,
    you’re the champ in this town and “you still got a pin to go.”

  • You’re a CrocaGator

    Once upon a swampy river lived a crocodile family of three:
    there was Crocamommy, Crocadaddy and little Crocasonny.

    The three of them swam the river and hunted for food to eat;
    they relaxed in the shade along the banks to avoid the heat.

    Crocasonny learned to hunt and was fast on all four feet;
    he could smell a meal a mile away and was very discreet.

    His mom and dad were proud of his growth into a fine big croc;
    they knew the day was near when he would leave their block.

    One warm evening Crocasonny went fishing for a treat to eat;
    he explored far down the river, way past his ordinary beat.

    He noticed another Croc moving on the other side of a creek;
    curious to make a friend, he swam across to get a closer peek.

    When he got there he was surprised to find a Croc like no other;
    as he approached he could tell she was a girl like his mother.

    Her skin was a pretty color and she had the cutest short nose;
    Crocasonny thought she was so beautiful, he almost froze.

    She liked his narrow nose and found him handsome and strong;
    they took off for a swim and discovered they really got along.

    As they got to know each other she explained she was a Gator;
    he admitted his mom and dad were Crocs a few moments later.

    They did not look the same, but they fell in love for each other;
    it mattered not to them until the day he got to met her father;

    Gatordaddy said, “This guy is a Croc, and I forbid you to see him;”
    that’s when Gatormommy stepped in and said, “Let’s all go for a swim.”

    Dad settled down when he saw Crocasonny made Gatorsissy happy;
    the next day they swam the river to meet Croc’s mom and pappy.

    They were different but nice, and they all swam the same river;
    they ate alike and were all hunted by the same tribe upriver.

    As Gatorsissy and Crocasonny talked it over a question arose;
    What if we have kids some day, will they have a funny nose?

    What will we tell them when they look at us with curious shock?
    What will we say if they one day ask, are they a Gator or a Croc?

    They agreed to proudly say, “You were blessed by the Creator;
    you got the very best of both of us, so….
    “You’re a CrocaGator.”

  • You’re a Bullied CrocaGator

    Once upon a swampy river Crocasonny and Gatorsissy’s twins started school.
    They had played pretend school at home and thought it was going to be cool.

    Since the twin’s father was a crocodile and their mother was an alligator,
    the parents always referred to both children as “You’re a CrocaGator”
    The real names of the twins were Croca-Dude and Croca-Dollie.
    They were both fun loving kids and enjoyed playing beach ball volley.

    The Crocagators swam off one sunny morning to their first day of classes,
    they did not know then what lied ahead of them in the tall river grasses.

    They both started out in homeroom but then went their separate way,
    Dollie went to cooking class and Dude went to fishing school for the day.

    They soon discovered that they were different than most of their peers.
    Since they were born both croc and gator some kids gave them sneers.

    The twins felt no difference but a few bad crocs made them feel unwanted.
    These crocs make fun of them and soon the twins were actually taunted.

    They learned that the school was divided into two dominate club houses.
    The club of crocs hated the club of gators and treated them like louses.

    The whole school referred to the meanest croc as Tator, the gator-hater.
    The twins were part croc but they were bullied for being half way gator.

    The bullies called them mean names and made fun of their unusual snout;
    this hurt real bad deep inside and it made them go home in tears and pout.

    As the taunting progressed the twins talked about what they should do.
    They decided that informing their parents was the right thing to do.

    They felt ashamed but told their parents what was going on at school,
    it has gotten so bad the kids admitted they were now a sad fraidy fool.

    Mom and Dad got upset but were proud of the twins for letting them know.
    They decided the best way to deal with it was to act out each role in a show.

    Before the role playing show began the parents had one thing to say,
    “We adore every beautiful inch of you and we love you more each day
    and there is nothing wrong with you to make bullies act this way.”

    Then Dude and Dollie took on their new roles and now became gator haters.
    This made them feel awkward at first, as they did not like being gator traitors.

    Mom played Dollie and Dad was Dude as they acted out the twins part.
    They showed the twins how to respond whenever the bullying would start.

    They taught them how to avoid the haters and not pay them any regard.
    They told them to walk away and not get mad when the haters acted hard.

    The parents went on to show the twins how to notify their teacher.
    They said knowing how to protect themselves was an important feature.

    As they left the next day for school the twins felt better prepared.
    When the haters tried to bully them they were no longer scared.

    One day while swimming home the twins heard a loud splash along the bank.
    They saw that Tator the gator-hater was caught on a trapper’s hook yank.

    The twins looked at each other, uncertain what to do about his distress,
    their least favorite bullying croc Tator was hooked and almost hopeless.

    As the gator-hater went into a death roll the twins stepped into action,
    they swam over and chewing the line in half was their instinctive reaction.

    Tator swam free but was in disbelief as he looked the twins in the face,
    the Crocagators he had once taunted had just saved him from disgrace.

    Then Tator hugged Dude and Dollie and thanked the twins over and again.
    He apologized for his bullying behavior and asked them to be his friend.

    The next day at school Tator took the twins before the other gator-haters,
    Tator announced from this day on we take care of these two crocagators,
    and please just call me Tator as I am no longer a bullying gator-hater.

  • You’re a CrocaGator Twins Go To School

    Once upon a swampy river CrocaSonny and GatorSissy started a family.
    After the birth of two sets of twins it had quickly became a multi-family.

    Since Dad was a croc and Mom was a gator they call the kids a CrocaGator.
    Each were very special in their own way and born gifted by their creator.

    Along with Step- sister “G.W.P.”, who was Dad’s “Gift” child for marring Mom,
    the couple raised all five of them in a home made under a tall cabbage palm.

    The twins grew up fast, as their parents taught them to hunt and swim.
    The time came when they informed the kids, “School will soon begin.”

    The twins were nervous at first of being away from Mom and Dad,
    who were happy the kids were going to school but were also sad.

    G.W.P. reassured them that they’d like it but the twins were afraid.
    They had never been away from home where they fished and played.

    So CrocaSonny had an idea to relieve them of their go away fear.
    He decided to convert their home into a pretend school right there.

    He felt if he could make them at ease with their home as a school,
    when it was time for the real one they would not be a fraidy fool.

    So Dad turned the living room into a class room and hung a chalk board.
    He showed them how the teacher writes lessons that they must record.

    Then Dad changed the table into a desk and said, “I’m your principal.”
    He told them you can remember how to spell it because he is your “pal”.

    G.W.P. told the kids to get every book and bring them to the den.
    She set the books up on a shelf and said, “Now I’m your librarian.”

    Mom jumped in on the fun and announced, “I’ll be your teacher.”
    She stood up and read them a gator tale about a silly creature.

    CrocaSonny thought again and soon he had the craziest idea yet.
    He hung a rope over a tree limb and made a play ground swing set.

    GatorSissy transformed the kitchen into a cafeteria style buffet,
    so the twins would be okay as they ate lunch at school this way.

    Dad rang the door bell to start their make believe school class.
    It was fun and not scary at all and Mom said they should pass.

    Then they went on a fun field trip to learn about the environment.
    The parents taught the kids that preserving it was a vital element.

    After a fishing lesson they finished their day of pretend school.
    The twins told the their Mom and Dad, “This place is really cool.”

    Soon the brave twins swam off to their first day of actual school.
    They thanked their whole family by saying, “You guys truly rule.”

  • You’re a Happy Birthday CrocaGator

    Once upon a swampy river CrocaSonny and GatorSissy started a family.
    Now that there were two sets of twins it had quickly become a multi-family.

    Since Dad was a croc and Mom a gator they call the kids a CrocaGator.
    They all loved to dance to their favorite song, “See ya later alligator.”

    The day was coming soon when the twins would celebrate their birthday.
    They were anxious for a big party where they hoped to open gifts all day.

    Mom told the twins to make a wish list of the things that they most desire.
    They each dreamed of their favorite things that they wanted to acquire.

    When the twins got together to compare their wish lists with each other,
    they discovered that both just wanted more toys of one kind or another.

    One of the twins said they had met a friend who didn’t have even one toy,
    they lived at Lyndsey’s Homeless Home and had no play things to enjoy.

    The twins thought again and realized that more toys were not that needy.
    They had wanted more than they could use and had gotten quite greedy.

    They carefully reconsidered what they wished for on their special day.
    So they thought about how they could make it truly a happy birthday.

    The twins all soon agreed on a plan that was unique and quite clever,
    that would make this their most memorable and happiest birthday ever.

    When their birthday arrived the twins were given presents by the ton,
    but to their parents surprise they refused to unwrap even a single one.

    Mom and Dad said, “What is going on here, I thought you wanted that toy?
    Do you realize we shopped for days so that you could have them to enjoy?”

    The twins told their parents what they wished for was a happy birthday.
    So they had decided on a plan to celebrate it in their own special way.

    They announced, “What would make us happiest is to donate each gift.
    There are so many more needy kids whose spirits these toys could lift.”

    At first Mom and Dad were in pure shock and stood there in wonder,
    but they realized the twins were serious and that this was no blunder.

    So the twins loaded their gifts and took them to Lyndsey’s Homeless Home,
    where they happily handed out their presents to kids they had never known.

    The twins were thrilled to see the children open each and every treasure.
    It made them feel exceptional deep down inside for giving so much pleasure.

    The twins had always been taught it was better to give than to receive.
    Now that they felt this in their own hearts this is a lesson they do believe.

    When they returned back home the twins told their proud Mom and Dad,
    “Thank you for making this the happiest birthday us twins have ever had.”

  • You’re a Special CrocaGator

    Our dad is CrocaSonny, he is a crocodile who married an alligator.
    Our mom is GatorSissy, she fell in love with CrocaSonny but is a gator.

    Since our dad is a croc and our mom is a gator they call us a CrocaGator.
    We are twins that were both born handicapped and special by the creator.

    I’m Croca-Bella, I have Down syndrome and I’ve got an extra special gene.
    I’m her brother Croca-Bell, I’m autistic and I’ve got a special set of genes.

    We all live in a river swamp where our parents give us special care.
    We have our own spot on the bank, with our play things everywhere.

    We both have radiant smiles, some say it makes them feel a special way.
    We try to always smile but it’s hard to keep smiling on a bad smile day.

    We paint our nails in multi colors, so that we’ll look nice all day.
    We love to hear someone say, “You two Croca-Bells look special today.”

    We dress up each morning and have nice accessories to wear.
    We have matching special shoes and they can take us anywhere.

    We take a special raft to school and sit beside our best friends.
    We go to fishing lessons and read our favorite books to the ends.

    We play in a special swamp ground and have fun with the toys.
    We love to play and make new friends with other girls and boys.

    We have a friendly Croca-Doctor, who looks after our special needs.
    We take his healthy medicine, that my parents keep in the reeds.

    We eat special swamp meats and have twin gator mugs for our thirst.
    We get special fish treats if we’re good and eat all our dinner first.

    We go to a nearby fishing croc dock, that is on the water front.
    We take our special chair which we ride when we go out for a hunt.

    We sit in the front at the dive- in movie and get to stay up late.
    We love to watch the entertainers when we’re on a special date.

    We always get such special attention and we’re treated very well.
    We ask for special favors and they say, “Anything for you two Croca-Bells.”

    We each have a cozy swamp bed where we sleep and have this special dream.
    We dream the entire school is at our birthday party, eating cake and ice cream.

    We get long stares from other crocs and gators as we go about our days.
    We think that they are probably just jealous of all of our special ways.

    So we changed our name to the Special CrocaGators for the rest of our life,
    because we have so many special things to be grateful for in this life.

    We’re told there is a special God, who gave the whole world its special life.
    We’re told God has a special son named Jesus, who also had a special life.

    We’re told that we’ll meet him in heaven and join his special way of life.
    We’re told that’s when we can thank him for all the special things in our life.

  • You’re a Step CrocaGator

    Down upon a swampy river, I live with my alligator mom in the reed.
    I am her daughter from mom’s first marriage that did not succeed.

    My mom’s name is GatorSissy. She loves me and likes to play hide and seek.
    She just started dating CrocaSonny. He’s a crocodile from across the creek.

    I won’t forget the day my mom introduced CrocaSonny to me.
    Who is this croc? And how does he seem to know all about me?

    He treats my mom real nice and likes to have fun with me.
    Who is this croc? And why does he always want to hug me?

    Some nights he comes to dinner and Mom cooks for him and me.
    Who is this croc? And why does he bring fish ice cream for me?

    Afterwards, we play and he reads my favorite books to me.
    Who is this croc? And why does he have to leave without me?

    There was a dive-in movie I wanted to see, and on his back he took me.
    Who is this croc? And what is he doing next week with me?

    When he is here, we talk a lot about fishing school and me.
    Who is this croc? And why does he care so much about me?

    He’s neat to have around, and he eats frog leg snacks with me.
    Who is this croc? And why does he always say he loves me?

    We’re real close now, and he goes boating everywhere with me.
    Who is this croc? And when will Mom say he can keep me?

    He says that I’m the “Gift With Purchase” he got with Mommy.
    Who is this croc? And will I always be his special “G.W.P.?”

    Mom said they’re getting serious and need to talk with me.
    Who is this croc? And what is this supposed to mean for me?

    He said he doesn’t want Mom without his “G.W.P.,” that’s me.
    Who is this croc? And will he be a good dad and never leave me?

    They talk of having a wedding and what to do with me.
    Who is this croc? And will he be moving in with Mom and me?

    Soon there was a swampy wedding, and they were married beside me.
    Who is this croc? And what do I call him? And what does this make me?

    If my new step-dad is a crocodile and my mom is an alligator,
    Who is this kid? And I believe that ‘I’m a Step-CrocaGator.’

    He hugged me and said, “G.W.P. you are forever family to me.”
    Who is this croc? And he said, “Now you can call me CrocaDaddy."

  • You’re a Twin Baby CrocaGator

    Once upon a swampy river CrocaSonny and GatorSissy were raised.
    They both enjoyed the muddy banks where they fished and grazed.

    Neither of them had found the right mate to settle down with yet.
    Until one warm day when both were out swimming and they finally met.

    They liked each other right away and soon were never far apart.
    They looked different but they fell in love from inside the heart.

    Gatorsissy already had a daughter from a prior marriage that ended.
    CrocaSonny came to love this child and the three of them really blended.

    CrocaSonny took the girl everywhere and nicknamed her “G.W.P.”.
    That’s short for the “Gift With Purchase” he got with GatorSissy.

    They soon were married and found a cozy swamp bank to settle in.
    It wasn’t long after that Mom announced, “I’m having a baby again!”

    It would be a special mix, since dad was a croc and mom was a gator.
    They could not wait to hold onto their first born “Baby CrocaGator”.

    Mom, Dad and G.W.P. admired the growth of the baby eggs with wonder.
    As they tossed and turned around from kicking their shells like thunder.

    They each took turns watching them and waited anxiously to meet.
    Dad was out fishing when Mom yelled out, “I think I see its feet.”

    CrocaSonny got the camera and gave GatorSissy coco-fish candy.
    They all stared at the eggs eagerly, ready if they needed to be handy.

    As the church bells rang four hopped out, cuddly from tail to snout.
    Two sets of boy and girl twin Croca-Babies had actually broken out.

    The CrocaDoctor said the twins were healthy, so Mom let out a cheer.
    The days after were crazy as the parents bought new twin baby gear.

    Crocs and gators all gathered near as Dad introduced them to the crowd.
    Welcome to the world, “You’re a Twin Baby CrocaGator,” he said so proud.

    Gazing into their new born eyes, the miracle of birth gave them a high.
    They thanked god for their special gifts and held each other for a cry.

    There was one last important thing that they all needed to do.
    They had to agree on just the right Croca-Baby names for each two.

    Born as the church bells rang is where the first twins got their name,
    so Croca-Bell and Croca-Bella is what these twins forever became.

    The second set of CrocaGator twins were born handsome and sweet,
    so Croca-Dude and Croca-Dollie are the names that fit them like a seat.

  • You're The Reason Why

    There is an extra twinkle in my eye,
    when before they would only cry.

    There is a little bounce in my step,
    when before it had lost most of its pep.

    There is always a smile on my face,
    when before it could not find its place.

    There is a fond memory I see in my mind,
    when before it was empty and blind.

    There is a special place I can recall,
    when before there was just a bare wall.

    There is a thrill to answer the phone,
    when before it only rang a lonely tone.

    There is a new date I will always cherish,
    when before this feeling I left to perish.

    There is a sense of happiness in the air,
    when before there was sadness every where.

    There is soothing warmth in my heart,
    when before it was my coldest part.

    There is a faith in god I have renewed,
    when before it was coming unglued.

    There is a gift for you in every store,
    when before there was no one to adore.

    There is a goose bump on every inch of me,
    when before it was gloomy as could be.

    There is hope for a brighter tomorrow,
    when before there was only sorrow.

    There is a joyful tear in my eye,
    as I write I love you across the sky,
    my world is on an all time high,
    and “You’re The Reason Why.”
  • Before You Leave For Heaven
    The doctors just came by and said it probably won't be long,
    before you will not be here and all your strength is gone.

    The children crying beside you all hope you awake one last time,
    before your last journey starts and out of this world you climb.

    The family have all been here and cheered you faithfully along,
    before your last show where you joked and sang one final song.

    The friends you had for years came by to see you once more,
    before you take off on one last ride up to heaven's door.

    The employees from your work sent flowers that are here,
    before you leave they wanted to say how you were so dear.

    The army buddy whose life you saved had just one thing to say,
    before you leave this battlefield, "I thank you every day."

    The mate that you love wants one last kiss to always cherish,
    before your soul leaves this earth and your body does perish.

    The mom and dad who once gave you life now anxiously await,
    before you leave it's nice to know they'll meet you at the gate.

    The many people that you touched all wanted you to know,
    before you are gone you'll be missed like a favorite TV show.

    The person that is you can go off without regret or dismay,
    before you exited you taught us how to live life your way.

    The rest of the world has some very special thanks to give,
    before you left you made sure it was a better place to live.

    The night nurse was just here to make her final round,
    before you leave her tender care and take off out of town.

    The preacher from the church is here to hold onto your hand,
    before one last prayer is said and you meet Jesus in God's land.

    The family has your precious memory and time can't take that away,
    before leaving for heaven you pray they'll join you there someday.

    The Lord said, "have no fear" as you depart from earth with grace,
    "before you leave for heaven" He prepared for you a better place.

  • You're a Safe CrocaGator
    Once upon a swampy river CrocaSonny and GatorSissy’s twins were in school,
    they had been going there for a while and thought it was really cool.

    Since the twin’s father was a crocodile and their mother was an alligator,
    the parents always referred to their children as “You’re a CrocaGator.”

    One day at school the teacher said, “There are going to be special guests,
    two people are coming to meet and speak to you at the principal’s request.”

    Later that afternoon a fireman and a police woman entered their class,
    they were both dressed in nice uniforms and had on lots of shiny brass.

    At first the twins were was afraid of them and scared of all their gear,
    the teacher saw this and reassuringly said, “You have nothing to fear.”

    Both officers were there to teach the kids some important safety tools,
    that would keep them happy and healthy if they followed just a few rules.

    The fireman spoke first and warned them, “Be careful never to start a fire,
    please, don’t play with matches because the flames can get hot and higher.”

    He said, “If there is ever a fire, get outside fast and head for the door,
    and if it is dark or smoky then you should crawl out on the floor.”

    He showed how to drop on the ground and roll if they caught on fire,
    “You could also jump in the river and that too would cease the fire.”

    Next he said, “I am very concerned that someone may offer you a smoke.
    Say no! Cigarettes are a severe health hazard and will cause you to choke.”

    He taught them about a special emergency phone number called “911”,
    “Call it to report any serious problem you observe as soon as its begun.”

    Then the fireman advised them, “If you need us, call 911, we’re always here,
    you can depend on us for all kinds of help and we will quickly appear.”

    Now the police officer stepped forward and asked the class to do her a favor,
    “Think of us as your friends and if you are ever in trouble as your life saver.”

    She warned the class, “Beware of anyone who is an unknown stranger,
    unless you know someone well, you should think of them as a danger.”

    She taught them about places on their body which were private for real,
    “Tell your parents if anyone other than your doctor ever tries to feel.”

    She explained to them, “When crossing a creek or river that is deep,
    don’t forget to ‘stop, look and listen’ before you take off with a leap.”

    Next she told them, “Do not play with weapons or bring any to school,
    guns and knives can badly injure others, so this is an important rule.”

    One of the kids curiously asked her why she needed to carry a gun,
    she explained it was to protect the public but it wasn’t meant for fun.

    She taught them about alcohol and drugs that were bad to take,
    She said, “If you ever do either one you’ll be making a big mistake.”

    Then she said the most reassuring thing, “If you are ever lost and alone,
    find a police officer and we will gladly help to get you safely home.”

    Then the fireman and the police woman said, “It’s back to work we must go,
    we have enjoyed our visit with you today, if you ever need us let us know.”

    Finally the twins gave them a big hug for making it such a special day.
    They said, “Thank you both for coming in and teaching us to be safe today.”
  • Seize Today
    Daddy, can we please go play at the park yesterday?
    …Why child did you say yesterday, don’t you mean today?

    No, I asked you to take me to play the other day,
    you were busy and said tomorrow is a better day.

    When tomorrow passed, it became yesterday.
    That is why yesterday, I still need to play.

    …Now I see child, but you cannot go back a day.
    …I’m sorry to say, that there is just no way.

    But Daddy, you promised me that day I could play.
    So I want to go to the park yesterday, today.

    …Child, once a day is over it has gone away,
    …because you only get one chance at today.

    Then why Daddy did you let today go astray,
    if you knew today would not be here to stay?

    …I guess that I thought it would be okay,
    …if I put your play off for another day.

    …Therefore, I will gladly take you there today,
    …to play all day, to make up for yesterday.

    But Daddy it’s not the same as yesterday,
    my friends won’t be there anymore today.

    That is why I really needed to go yesterday,
    you see, there is a special way that we play.

    …Child, the chance to go to the park yesterday,
    …was only good when yesterday was today.

    …So before this day becomes another yesterday,
    …and it too has gone away, let’s “seize today” to play.

  • Summer Vacation
    There is so much this summer that I want to do;
    I’m glad I’ll have a lot of time to see it all through.

    I’ll go to the park for weeks and play ball,
    and hope my parents never give me a call.

    Maybe I’ll fish for that whopper with delight;
    without concern for time or if I ever get a bite.

    I will hike the back trail and find out where,
    it finally ends up when it leaves from here.

    I’ll take off and go treasure hunting on my bike,
    and search the town over until gold I strike.

    I might set sail on a vast sea and bid time goodbye,
    where I can wish on every bright star in the sky.

    The very first week it rained, so in bed I stayed;
    no worry, I had plenty of time so videos I played.

    Then I got very ill and felt my head was in a fog;
    with nothing to do I watched TV and ate like a hog.

    I slept late and went to the park but no one was there,
    all my friends had already gone camping somewhere.

    Instead I went fishing but suddenly my reel broke;
    I had no money to replace it and this was no joke.

    So I mowed lawns for days to raise some quick cash;
    as soon as I had made enough I was off with a flash.

    But my bike got a flat and then I took a bad fall;
    all that hard work and the repairman got it all.

    I was short on time for adventure so I hit the trail,
    but the sky began showering big balls of white hail.

    I decided the next morning I would sail off like a kite,
    but a hurricane blew in and rocked my ship all night.

    When I finally got back onto some dry land,
    the summer was over and I could barely stand.

    Life is like a school summer time vacation…
    you have all these plans and no time conservation…
    but life is full of its unforeseen frustration…

    So much time is wasted with lack of appreciation…
    and soon the time is gone without anticipation…
    because time stops for no one in this creation…

    Do not wait too late for precious time dedication…
    before time runs out on you and your salvation…
    treasure the times of your life with sweet celebration…

  • You're a CrocaGator Goes to the Hospital
     Once upon a swampy river the CrocaGator twins were fishing for a snack,
    when their friend Manny the Manatee had news that really set them back .

    He said that their good friend Gomez the Turtle had caught a bad chill;
    His parents had taken him to the swim-in-hospital because he was so ill.

    The three agreed they had better get there and see what was wrong;
    along the way they picked up some turtle chews to help him get strong.

    When they got to the hospital they were told Gomez was in dock four;
    so down the hall they all swam past the nurses and equipment galore.

    Finally, they spotted their friend Gomez with a hose in his nose,
    laying in a bamboo bed under a sheet too short to cover his toes.

    Gomez looked very sick and was not his playful self as before;
    to cheer him up Manny got a present from the dive-by-store.

    They were worried about their friend and if he would get well;
    so they rubbed his feet and fed him and then shined up his shell.

    They asked the Croca-Doctor if Gomez was going to be alright;
    The doctor said he had a disease but there was a cure in sight.

    After some tests his parents reassured them he was going to be okay;
    it won’t be long before he recovers and can go to the swamp to play.

    While at the hospital they noticed two other friends were also in bed;
    Herriot Heron had a broken leg and Rocky Raccoon had a booboo head.

    The CrocaGator twins felt sorry that their friends were feeling down.
    They wanted to do something special to lift their spirits off the ground.

    The twins and Manny considered what would make them feel best.
    They all agreed that a fun pizza party would fill every request.

    Later that week they got enough pizza for the whole hospital and crew.
    The nurses and staff had been so great they wanted to include them too.

    You should have seen the look on Gomez’s face when the pizza arrived;
    he jumped excitedly out of the bed and into the pizza box he dived.

    After lots of rest and tender care Gomez was feeling good once more.
    His kind nurse, Betty Beaver, said he was ready for the dance floor.

    Gomez needs to take his medicine and eat right and he should be fine;
    so he left the hospital with his friends and swam back in the sunshine.
  • Sea Breeze
    I love to feel the ocean breeze;
    a precious gift from salty seas.

    It always puts my mind at ease;
    wraps me with a gentle squeeze.

    The surf washes all my cares away,
    and sends worries to a distant day.

    It replaces my pains with some play,
    and makes me feel like I ran away.

    Just listening to waves as I stroll;
    they nourish both my body and soul.

    It soothes me and makes me whole,
    and it never once asked for a toll.

    Wave upon wave is all that I hear;
    they release me from my every fear.

    Drying the memory of a sorry tear;
    makes me want to dance and cheer.

    I get a massage from natures song,
    and magically my stress is gone.

    Until sea breeze brings a new dawn;
    thanks for letting me listen along.

  • If I Could Fly a Butterfly
    I wish someday that I could fly,
    and take off riding on a butterfly.

    I would float gently in the breeze,
    and put my troubled mind at ease.

    I would dance to every pretty flower,
    and freshen up in a spring shower.

    I would glide across a pond so sweet,
    and land on a lily pad with my feet.

    I would listen to nature sing a song,
    and fly the clouds while I sang along.

    I would savor the taste of country air,
    and let the wind brush back my hair.

    I would travel the world and explore,
    and drift from the hills to the shore.

    I would admire the earth as I flew,
    and see the world with a new view.

    I would soar to heaven to meet everyone,
    and relax for a spell and have some fun.

    I would thank God for a blessed sunrise,
    and cherish the day I flew on butterflies.

    Introduction
    Reflections of a Life in Poetry is a collection of 50 poems I have written over the past 32 years. The subject matter is derived mostly from events in my life or those of close friends and family. They range from love to love lost, from life to lives lost, from childbirth to a child lost, from children to grandchildren, from courtship to marriage, from bikers to veterans, from Christmas to Thanksgiving, from Christenings to reunions, and even some “silly advice” just for the fun of it. I have also included several faith-based poems with spiritual messages If You Believe in Him.

    My love and marriage poems are especially dear to me and are written because I Trust You My Heart. The poem themes range from Anniversary Day to Valentine’s Day to Wedding Day. I trust I may have found the words to say what you wanted to but could not. Share them with the special person in your life and Don’t Forget To Say I Love You.

    I included an interesting new poem entitled “You’re A CrocaGator” which is the first in a series of children’s books I am writing based upon the life events of a crocodile and an alligator who fall in love.

    My hope is that you will find a special poem for you or a loved one that touches your emotions Just For One Day and brings either a smile or a tear, maybe recalls a fond memory of I Saw My Daddy, gives you comfort through a difficult time, or just causes you to reflect upon your life—where you have been and where you are going—between which There’s a Fine Line.

    Completed on: 03/25/2015 Review Rating: 5 stars! Reviewed By Rich Follett for Readers’ Favorite

    Reflections of a Life in Poetry by Kenny Rager is a heartfelt, ebullient collection of wise and inspirational poems from an experienced poet with a natural feel for the musicality of language. This collection of fifty of Rager’s poems, written over a period of thirty-two years, is handily organized into themed sections - “Holiday Poems,” “Love Poems,” “Encouragement Poems,” “In Fondest Memory Poems,” etc. - making it a perfect volume for those who occasionally have the need or opportunity to share an inspiring or relevant quote in a public speaking situation. Rager’s poems are, without exception, eminently quotable. From “Don’t Forget to Say I Love You”: “We often take for granted we’ll see a friend once more/you never know if they are your last words out the door/Don’t forget to say I love you, don’t fail to show you care.”

    Rager makes it clear that he is eager for readers to share his poems; at the end of “I Trust You My Heart” and its companion “You Can Trust Me Your Heart,” he offers optional last lines to be used when the poems are included in wedding vows. The fifty poems in Reflections of a Life in Poetry by Kenny Rager are always inspirational and often reflect Christian values, albeit never overtly so. One of the loveliest poems in the collection is the book’s dedication, written in rhyming pairs and offering genuinely heartwarming wisdom that somehow manages never to read like a list of platitudes. It is a delightful surprise to read such a volume of heartfelt rhymes that miraculously avoid being trite or saccharine. Rager’s poems are ideal for those who like their verse to rhyme but grow weary of greeting card sentiment. Every one of the fifty poems in Reflections of a Life in Poetry is uplifting and well crafted - the collection is truly a delight to read.
  •  You're a CrocaGator - 5 Star Review

    Completed on: 03/18/2015  Review Rating: 5 stars! Reviewed By Rich Follett for Readers’ Favorite

    You’re a CrocaGator by Kenny Rager is one of the most delightful, socially relevant, and timely children’s tales imaginable. On its pages (beautifully illustrated by Patti Brassard Jefferson), Rager tackles the hot-button issue of the mixed family with humor, charm, and no small amount of tact. When Crocasonny and Gatorsissy fall in love, they must navigate the social mine field of intolerance that all mixed family relationships must weather in a narrow-minded society. Along the way, they learn to celebrate their strengths and shared values, and help others learn to look past their differences.

    The underlying idea that we are all ‘CrogaGators’ who do not fit perfectly into society’s labeled boxes is both powerful and liberating. Children will learn from Kenny Rager’s You’re a CrocaGator that love crosses all boundaries and makes all things possible. The applications of the ‘CrocaGator’ metaphor are seemingly infinite; in the introduction, Rager indicates that he is developing a series of ‘CrocaGator’ books focusing on various sensitive and timely topics. If they all turn out to be as perfectly pitched as You’re a CrocaGator, bullying and racism will become things of the past and values in education will be taken care of for the next ten generations or more.

    You’re a CrocaGator by Kenny Rager is the perfect vehicle to ease tensions and build confidence for children of mixed parentage; in addition, it is an ideal catalyst for meaningful family discussions on the subjects of racism and intolerance. You’re a CrocaGator should be required reading for all children (and the adults who love them) in our modern world. I wish every child in the world could read this book.

    INVICTUS
    OUT OF THE NIGHT THAT COVERS ME,
    BLACK AS THE PIT FROM POLE TO POLE,
    I THANK WHATEVER GODS MAY BE
    FOR MY UNCONQUERABLE SOUL.

    IN THE FELL CLUTCH OF CIRCUMSTANCE
    I HAVE NOT WINCED NOR CRIED ALOUD,
    UNDER THE BLUDGEONINGS OF CHANCE
    MY HEAD IS BLOODY, BUT UNBOWED.

    BEYOND THIS PLACE OF WRATH AND TEARS
    LOOMS BUT THE HORROR OF THE SHADE,
    AND YET THE MENACE OF THE YEARS
    FINDS, AND SHALL FIND, ME UNAFRAID.

  •  If by Rudyard Kipling

    If
    If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
    If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;
    If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
    Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
    Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
    And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
    If you can meet with triumph and disaster
    And treat those two imposters just the same;
    If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
    Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
    Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
    And stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools;

    If you can make one heap of all your winnings
    And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
    And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breath a word about your loss;
    If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
    To serve your turn long after they are gone,
    And so hold on when there is nothing in you
    Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

    If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
    Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
    If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
    If all men count with you, but none too much;
    If you can fill the unforgiving minute
    With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
    Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
    And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

    THE FINAL INSPECTION
    The soldier stood and faced God,
    Which must always come to pass
    He hoped his shoes were shining,
    Just as brightly as his brass.

    'Step forward now, you soldier,
    How shall I deal with you ?
    Have you always turned the other cheek?
    To My Church have you been true?'

    The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
    'No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
    Because those of us who carry guns,
    Can't always be a saint.

    I've had to work most Sundays,
    And at times my talk was tough.
    And sometimes I've been violent,
    Because the world is awfully rough.

    But, I never took a penny,
    That wasn't mine to keep...
    Though I worked a lot of overtime,
    When the bills got just too steep.

    And I never passed a cry for help,
    Though at times I shook with fear.
    And sometimes, God, forgive me,
    I've wept unmanly tears.

    I know I don't deserve a place,
    Among the people here.
    They never wanted me around,
    Except to calm their fears.

    If you've a place for me here, Lord,
    It needn't be so grand.
    I never expected or had too much,
    But if you don't, I'll understand.

    There was a silence all around the throne,
    Where the saints had often trod.
    As the soldier waited quietly,
    For the judgment of his God.

    'Step forward now, you soldier,
    You've borne your burdens well.
    Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets,
    You've done your time in Hell.'
